Looking for the collective opinion on a bike upgrade.

Coming from an old (2017) Fox Float 36 Factory and Float X Factory on an SB66c. Now looking to get a new SB140 LR, but don't really have the budget to get the Factory spec again, so would be looking at Performance 36's with the Grip damper and Float X Performance.

Given the age of my current Factory fork/shock, will the Performance models still feel decent, or even an upgrade? I Think my current 36's are FIT RC2 damper? On the current fork/shock, I've basically set the sag and then put the rebound/compression settings on what Fox recommend and not really touched them.

In time I guess I would upgrade the Performance 36s to the Grip 2/X2/X when it goes in for a service. Is there any difference in the Performance and Factory on the air spring side? Or would the damper upgrade make it Factory like just without the Kashima?

I didn’t notice much (if any) of an upgrade from the RC2 to the Grip2. The Grip damper in my Marzocchi coil Z1 isn’t very good but also not much worse than my Grip2. From some reviews it sounds like Grip X is the sweet spot for budget versus damping quality. Some will say you can’t go wrong, others will say none of it is very good. After having bought a custom damper for my Zeb I tend to be in the second camp.

You may be able to just switch the damper cartridge unit and keep your Fox 36 factory chassis,
depending on yr model, sites sell parts that allow you to switch things without the need to
replace the whole fork.

Picked up various parts here for eg ( see link ) which allowed me options cheaper than a whole fork upgrade.
