I am only 5,3 and I ride a stock misfit psycles dissent 29er. My mom is 5,1 and also rides one. It doesn't really matter how tall you are.

Just for fun I took my AM 26" bike for a ride the other day. I instantly wished I was on my grown up bike with big wheels once we started to ride. Sure the tiny wheels felt faster because they were all over the place as opposed to the biggies but I was sucking hind boob on the down hills. Just a bad experiment.

i must say as a person that has preached how great 26 inch wheels are and how i would never own or ride a 29 inch wheeled mountain bike i am eating my words. I just got back from my first really technical trail ride on my gunner rockhound 29er and this bike is the best riding bike i have ever ridden hands down. I hate to say my fully rigid 26 inch single speed is going to see a lot less riding.
Is your 29er asingle speed or geared?

my 29er is geared...

I tried out a small KHS on a trail loop and was hooked. I could clean obstacles and finished the ride faster than on my 26". It felt a bit weird being higher and the steering was a bit slow, but otherwise despite the punkass, know-it-all naysayers, this is a trend that is here to stay. I thought I could improve on the handling with a shorter fork, so I am having a custom 29er frame built for me now.

I've always wanted to ride a 29er, how do you feel it compares to a 26"?

Here's my Misfit Dissent finally finished.
Had it out camping and it felt good - no weirdness about it. Plus, I don't look like a bear at the circus I do on 26" wheel bikes.

I'm only guessing that by "dangly bits" you mean the der's and such? Well, my old knees would scream at me if I ever went singlespeed.Confused

hey im gonna go into xc and light a.m here but has anyone tried the trek 69er or the ?carver? 96er. basically the 6 stands for 26" wheel in the back adn 9 stands for 29" wheel int he front. basically your supposed to get most of the advantages of a 29er with some of the draw backs beign fixed by puttigna 26" in the back. so in therory you should get the point and shoot affect fo the 29ers alogn with more momentum and cornering ability and the rear of the bike is "light and flickable" and shoudl accelerate much faster then your average 29er. so has anyone riden one of these? how well do you think it lives up to the hype? any problems with the bike?
anyways, specifically im wonderign about the trek 69er 3x9 in 17.5" toptube, im 5'10 1/2 lol.

dont know, never tried a 69-ner but i think that you'll get bumpier ride in the back - just where you will feel it most

Just wondering where a good website is to find good 29er components. Got my bike from specialized but the site is lacking in the components department. Looking for rims/wheelsets/tires/etc. Ebay/Craiglist doesn't have much in terms of 29er stuff at the moment either. Thanks

Try JensonUSA.com.
They have 29er wheelsets, 29er tires, 29er frames, 29er build kits . . .
