Seems that bike names are becoming one of the main reason someone buys a bike these days. Like you're cool to ride a sertain brand or model.
What is in your opinion the brands that is getting a lot of attention in 2008
I would say:
Kona Stinky
Specialised demo
santa cruz v10
transition (Any)

Santa Cruz and Specialized for sure, even though i own a santa cruz, i do admit i did get attracted to my vp frame because of the hype they were getting. But, its all marketing right? If a company gets their name out there enough times its bound to hook somebody. Take Kona and Crankworx for example, anybody who goes to Crankworx is bombarded by the brand name and look how many people ride their freeride bikes. Im sure some people buy bikes regardless of the name, but most people buy bikes from what they have heard/seen from a particular company. I doubt that many companies would spend much time sponsoring riders and events if it didnt help get the product noticed.

So i guess the "IN" products are just the companies that do the best job of conveying a certain image to the consumer.

Damn are you serious? I left the Demo series for my Commencal so I could get away from the trendy shit. Since when are Commencals trendy? I have never seen another one in person...

I've just been reading tons of hype about them lately. Really remind me of transition. Seems to be a company bought for the image.

No offense of course.

Of course I take offense to that. I see what you mean though, but there is a reason for all that hype. Reminds me more of the whole Sunday phase kind of...The hype will soon die down. But come on, comparing Commencal to Transition? Pfft.Beer

Hopefully. I'm not saying you bought it out of hype, only that there's a lot of hype around Commecal right now. As I've said before in many places, I still love Commencal.

Damn you quoted me before I edited my post, haha. But yes I do agree, I am sure many kids are dreaming about these bikes just because of Cedric and the Athertons...It's a shame...

Are you saying Transition are better or Commencal? I think they both make great bikes, just curious Confused

On the whole though this thread is stupid, like the thread, "what's this year's DH "in" color?". Come on, can you get any more trend whorey?

Well, seeing as I am a straight DH kinda guy...I would pick Commencal anyday of well, just anyday. So in my mind Commencal is better, for me.

And thanks Sherbet Fab Now I need to get it on a diet. I can either drop it do 38lbs, or buy a whistler seasons pass...I'm in a big debate here Very confused

Go Whistler. It doesn't need to be super light, and you'll get better the more you ride. I say go whistler, as it's more fun.

Ya, this is what I was thinking aswell. What I would really like to do is get my bike lighter than Laurie's claimed weight of her new bike...that would make my year!
