Anyone have any good suggestions on full face helmets or body armour that is more female-specific? I know that there is a company out of Vancouver that makes women's specific armour but it didn't fit me very well. I have leg pads but am looking for chest/arms. Also, I'm looking for a full face helmet that doesn't have skulls or cross-bones on it. I would normally be willing to order from the US but I'm heading out on a biking trip next week and need to buy the stuff before then.

Check out www.pricepoint.com for great deals on everything. They have many items that are women specific. Won't help much in time for your trip, but for future needs it might be a good place to stop.

I got pink armor from rockgardn. I love it. It's shaped a little differently than most armor so we can cram our boobs in there. Plus, it's pink!
I have a fox rampage helmet and it fits me alright. Helmets you just have to try on a ton until you find something that fits that way you want it to.

I am a huge fan of Giro lids as far as price and quality are concerned. The Giro Remedy is a great helmet that is offered at a good price point as far as helmets are concerned. As well, they are very comfortable, well ventilated, and offer very good protection for the money. I have used a Remedy for a couple seasons and I really enjoy it. It has also taken quite a few spills along with me and my bike during practice runs and hanging out with the guys. However, I do use a TLD lid for racing as it is pretty much “the” standard as far as racing goes. It has been proved time and time again and therefore, I use it. The Remedy is offered in two models, the first, a CF version which is lighter and the normal Remedy. The Remedy comes in about 5 or 6 different colors so there is probably one that matches your bike and your personality. I have found that there is little to no difference as far as a women’s specific helmet is concerned. As long as a normal helmet is sized properly, it will fit. Almost every manufacturer has helmets ranging from XS to XL/XXL so something is bound to fit regardless of if it is a “normal” helmet or women’s specific helmet. Personally, I haven’t bought into this whole women’s specific scheme yet. Their stuff seems to be double the price when all you have to do is put in some time and research the products you want to buy to find something comparable to the women’s specific stuff for half the price. Like Deanne said, go to your local shop and try on some lids. Salesmen love to help out the female riders as we are a rare breed. I’m sure Café would love to help you out. They are great guys.

As far as armor goes, a lot of shops don’t carry that wide of a variety in them and it will be difficult to find any women’s specific upper body jackets. They simply don’t have enough demand to bring in enough for you to get a good feel of the different brands and sizes. Depending on how big you are, you might be able to fit into some Dainese armor. However, these suits are made in Europe so sizing runs on the smaller side of things. It is also hard to fit in and zip everything up and feel comfortable in it. However, you will get used to it after the first couple of rides. The main difference between male and female specific armor is the chest plate. On female specific armor, they tend to run two vertical plastic pieces on either side of the zipper while on male armor or “normal” armor; it is one large piece of plastic covering the whole chest area. This makes it uncomfortable to wear and very bulky. I have used Dainese jackets for years and have loved them. The fit is excellent and the protection is great. I have also used a 661 Pressure Suit. These jackets tend to run on the larger size of things so I would personally size down. It really all comes down to trying a jacket and helmet on and picking what works for you! Everybody’s body is different and what works for me might not work for you. It might be worth the 40 minute drive down to Calgary to see what they have too if Café is unable to help you.

Sorry, I know I'm a guy and it's a girls only thread, but for female specific armour, I know Alpinestars and Mace both have female specific sets which you might wanna check out (and I know it's available in Canada cuz I saw it in a few shops in Whistler last week). I'm told the Dainese stuff fits pretty good too, but it's pricey, and designed around blokes.

Any other ladies tired of trying to find jerseys that aren't boy's youth XL??? There are a few cool ladies jerseys out there but because there are so few, you head out to the bike park wearing one and every other female in line has on the same jersey!! Companies need to realize that we are out there and willing to shop!!! I don't want a jersey that is so tight that when I go over a drop my shirt rides up and I don't want a jersey that looks like it's out of my boyfriend's closet! Yes pink is cool but not all women's jerseys need to be pink either. I just want selection and comfort and I'm willing to pay for it!!

I just bought a couple dakine jerseys and I really like them. I find I'm buying big though. I'm a size 6 but my mace shorts had to be XL in order to fit! I'd like to see the girl that wears the small try biking. She'd be a twig that snaps in half as soon as she falls.

Dakine has been making exceptional looking and feeling stuff for years. I think that they actually offer a great product at a reasonable price. However, I would really like to try some of the Sombrio stuff. The only downside is their bold styling is a little too much for me.

I bought the Dainese upper body armour without the plastic plate on the chest as I found it fit a bit better for girls. It's also about 150$ cheaper which is nice, but won't protect you if you hit a tree or something straight on. I'm probably going to sell mine and get the plastic chest protector one, even if it doesn't fit quite as well. Those baby blue/light pink rockgardn ones are a bit too girly looking but some people are into that I suppose. It's just a bit overkill when people get the pink shinpads to match, and pink gloves... and pink helmet and bike. I definitely spotted some girl riding aline that had every pink biking thing she could find! haha.. Fab

I agree about the over use of pink. I would also like to find more women's gear that fits better and actually is designed to go around CURVES, not a skinny stick body.


I do second the Giro Remedy. I have one in a size small and I love it. It's kept my head together during some good bails!

I've been wearing Dainese body armour for years and love the fit. I also agree that the biking industry has a very limited collection of functional girls wear (especially for DHing)-Dakine has done well with their fits and designs. I often wonder who designs the girls Sombrio line...so much potential... I don't need pink and skulls on everything I wear! I already know that I'm a badass on my bike...does everyone else have to know in the Whistler line up too...lol :-) I've checked out Loeka too, but once again you'll see the same jersey around town...any other suggestions out there?
