I own a big hit fsr 1 2007.You cant go wrong with that bike.
It's a very stable bike at high speed and it provides confidence.
The front has a tendancy to go up on jumps, just push the bar down
and its ok.
I highly suggest you change the seat, the grips and add a bash guard.
Specialized is a quality minded company.
For the buck, the big hit is probably the best dh/freeride bike you can buy.

is this a question or a statement?

they are entry level fr/dh bikes like the kona stinky, ect. you can find a better bike for the same price used. they are not bad bikes at all, but in no way they are "great dh bikes"

if you get them for a good price then they are probably one of if not the best entry level big out there...

The problem is that they are more of a freeride bike than a DH bike. Entry level DH, not so much entry lever FR. The frames suspension design is decent, doesn't suffer from brake jack, decent feel, they offer a good amount of travel. Far better than the stinky that someone compared it to earlier. The bighit is likely one of the most abused bikes out there, yet you do not hear of many broken bighit frames.
