Ok, so, since my wrist is out of commission for the time being, I figured I may as well give my bike a good top to bottom cleaning to pass the time.
Problem is, I don't have a crank remover tool. The spindle bosses are so dented up that I doubt that one would fit in there anyway :/
So, how do I get these f*ckers off? Last time they needed to come off, I ended up hitting them with a hammer, which actually worked beautifully. Not too keen on doing it again though.
I just did it recently... a hard rubber mallet is really the only way to go....sometimes it still feels like it won't move but it will. just keep hammerin'!
Here you go, it's in spanish but it's a video, so you kinda get what he's doing just by watching, hope it helps out. And as for using a rubber mallet, it is better but a regular hammer does the trick.
Another vote for the rubber mallet. Such a useful tool that I've used many times. Like Alex-Mtl said, you're not going to bend it by using a rubber mallet. Think of all the abuse it takes from every day riding. A few light taps wont hurt anything.
