I have only had the bike for a few weeks and the shock is not acting right. First and foremost the lockout doesn't work and it makes a clunk at full compression, there is no leaks that i noticed. It also seems that the compression adjustment doesn't work at all. But the rebound and travel are working fine and you can feel the fluid inside.

What could be wrong with it already?

As for clunk that's typical for some air RockShox' (you got air, right?). don't worry about it unless it gets really bad and interferes with smoothness. It may go away by itself but doesn't have to.

But your compression/lockout... you need to have your fork rebuilt. You have to little fluid or you had a really bad hit when on lockout and this thing which holds oil inside the upper has gone away (naaaah don't know how to explain that in English) but that's rather not your case.

Either way if you don't know how to deal with things like that (I reckon you don't as you're asking about it) go to LBS, you'll save lots of time.

i'm perfectly comfortable playing with it(i figure if i can rebuild a motorcycle i can handle a shock) i just didn't want to dig it apart if i didn't need to.

where can i buy the rebuild kit? and can i upgrade anything while im in there?

OK I see...
First of all unfortunately it is quite difficult to buy single replacement parts...

But it might turn out you don't need to buy anything, just take everything apart, check everything, maybe replace some orings and maybe set something in its place if it has moved... it sometimes DOES happen... check oil volume in right upper and watch for if it leaked into lower...

Basically on RS website there is a service manual with exploded views and there is everything you want to know. It's a piece of cake for somebody who has any idea about what he's doing and has tools/workshop.

If you want to know something specific then ask but I might be having problems with answering because of my basic English, so you might just ask someone English-speaking. I don't know why this thread has so little feedback, there are lots of people who know how to deal with RSs.

And in case of problems ask PB user Hummeroid. He seems to know everything about RockShox.

Ok I took it all apart and all the O-rings seem to be in tact but all my fluid is in the lower?! What could cause that?

did you leave it upside down? im sure i know two, if not definitely one person who broke their rockshox lockout and stuff by leaving it upside down overnight or for a few hours at least.

Thats absolutely impossible. Without a pre-existing part failure, it simply cannot happen. It might not work properly for a few compressions of the suspension though, as air needs to bleed back out.

As for the OP:

If all the oil is in your lower, then you blew the seal head. You werent by chance riding with the lockout on, were you? If you hit too hard of a bump with lockout on, you risk blowing seal heads.

As for diagnosing that: You say your rebound works?!?! You can slow rebound down all the way still? It doesnt have a HUGE undamped area in the stroke? If thats the case, then all your oil CANT be in the lower, as the rebound piston NEEDS oil to slow down rebound. Go give this a try- Turn rebound to full slow, then compare that to how it rebounds at full fast. If your seal head blew, it will be the same speed both times.

Well give me a few I'll go out and yank the lowers off and apart to get a good look at it.

youve most likly blown an oil seal which has led to the oil being dumped into the lowers, happened to my pikes.
if you can get hold of an oil seal kit it should be easy enough to replace them using a guide of the SRAM websire Wink
