so i am switching my cranks from FSA gravity Mega Exo cranks (pretty sure its a ISIS crank) to the new Shimano Saints. i can get the left crank arm off, since it just bolts on, but i don't know how to get the right (driveside) crank with the spindle out.

so basically what tools do i need to get the old cranks off (and the BB) and put the new saints and BB on? I'd rather not go to a shop since they charge over $40 and I'd rather just buy tools.

It would be best to get a bike shop to take out your old bb if you don't plan on reusing it so you dont have to buy tools you are not going need after your done.

This to take out the old bb

and this to install the new bb

for install you could use a strap wrench or a something similar if you dont want to buy that tool.

if its ISIS you dont need a crank extractor but you do need a BB tool. you can get one for a few $$ and its a really easy job.

Unless you've got a set of Hussefelts, which fall off nicely on there own agenda:P, a crank puller is the proper way to remove a crank arm. Externall bearing BB's do not require any tools to remove the crank arm. Both Externall and ISIS require a tool to remove the BB.

unless it is a self extracting crank like the old truvativ stylo ISIS.

I'm not familiar with Truvativ Stylo Cranks, if they have a self extractor that would be quite convenient. Most ISIS cranks do not however.

Taking a few seconds to look up the FSA cranks, they are an external BB crankset, and should be quite simple to remove. Scroll down a little and there is a link to an instalation guide on FSA's site http://www.ridegravity.com/fly.aspx?layout=product&taxid=13

I verys strongly suspect that if you have removed the left crank arm a few gentle taps on the spindle with a wooden or rubber mallet should pop the right loose. There is nothing to retain the right hand arm other than the left hand arm. I will re-emphasize Wink GENTLE and WOODEN or RUBBER mallet. If you start wailing on the end of the spindle and splines or use a metal hammer, you'll end up wrecking the crankset.

Edit: The FSA crankset is external. Buy the PRO (Shimano sub-brand) BB tool.
