Hey,
I'm currently studying Performance Sportswear Design at Falmouth University and am researching cycling clothing for my project.

It would be great if you could tell me what brands you all use and also if you wear a lightweight waterproof jacket which one do you own.

As keen riders is there anything you'd like to see improved with the current women's garments that are available?

Just some background info about myself:- i've been cycling for around 15yrs now, and have been racing for around 11 yrs nationally and internationally. I basically love bikes more than a good cuppa and a chocolate biscuit. I ride mtb xc and downhill, cyclo-cross, road, bmx freestyle and dirt jumping. I've competed in all kinds of events ranging from the NPS's, World Cups, 12hr and 24hr enduros, bmx freestyle events, DH races and cross races all over the places!

So as you can tell i'm a pretty keen rider, so would love to hear what riding clothing is good for you guys.

Thank you for your time, RIDE ON!

Brands

Shoes: 510 or Marzo at the moment
Clothes: Wrex, Jett, Mace, are my favorites, though have stuff by Kona (best biking jeans ever), TLD
Armour: Used stuff by Mace, Fox, Dakine and THE, I like my THE stuff the best - better fitting
and yes, waterproof jacket. I opted for a non mtb brand. Think it's by bear mountain or some odd brand.

Shoes: 510 Women's Carve
Clothes: Mostly women's gear from Mountain Equipment Coop - I often wear trekking capri pants and wrap my leg pads over them. Good movement and no chafing. Also wear Roach DH shorts and have Sombrio and Mace jerseys for over armour.
Armour: Roach leg crash pads, Fox elbow, and Dainese full flak jacket. I like the Dainese, it actually fits me fine, but I hate their leg armour.
Headgear and other: Bell Bellistic full face and Oakley Moto goggles; Dakine and Race Face AM gloves. For DH I wear Keprotec armoured gloves. Save those knuckles!
My jacket is an MEC Woosh women's Goretex

Shoes: Diadora X-trail Evo's for xc and road and Specialized for DH
Shorts: Cannondale spandex for road.. Cannondale Grind (men's) I can't find anything of decent heavy material that fits me decently other than C'dale. And I can't stand FOX. Plus, Cannondale has life time warenty...
Shirts: Cannondale Grind or some loose fitting tee-shirts or hoodies. Occasionally I'll just throw on a wife beatter...
Gloves: 661 or Cannondale Grind or just Cannondale classic gels for road...
Protection: LOVE 661 helmets for DH and XC. Giro for road. I have Fox knee, shin, and elbow guards but they are very uncomfortable and my skin can't breath. So I've gone for some 661 pads. If I'm really hucking off rocks that day, I use my 661 body armor too... Depends.
I have several cannondale waterproof jackets, but i rarely wear them riding unless i'm road riding.
I'm very partcial to Cannondale w/ their life time warenty. Plus, it seems to fit me really well. If i don't use Cannondale, I go for 661. They are extreamely comfortable. Race Face has some really comfortable jerseys but i tend to tear the shoulders really easily...

Shoes: I have been wearing skate shoes for the last few years. Right now I'm riding in Orchids. However, now that 510 are making ladies shoes, I suspect I will be in a pair of those next year.

Shorts: I am wearing Mens Fox Blitz and Troy Lee Motto shorts. They built with stronger fabrics than most ladies shorts...which I tend to tear in no time. I pair these up with a Sugoi shammy.

Shirts: I have a ladies Fox jersey that has seen better days and some nameless black sleeveless thing that seems to work well over my armour. I have one of those transparent plastic Fox raincoats for really wet days. Doesn't fit very well...but for $30 I didn't expect much. I also have a Race Face jacket that gets more use as urban wear. mIf it's cold I'll toss a hoodie on.

Protection: 661 shin pads (I'm on my 3rd set) and Dainese Upper Body armour. I also have a set of 661 elbow pads for light riding. Right now I have a fox Rampage helmet. Fits pretty good. Also have a Giro Remedy and a TSG half-lid. I have a pair of Oakley goggles which I hate using with my Giro helmet. Something about the shape causes lots of fogging. I don't seem to have this problem with the Rampage though. As for gloves, I like the Fox ladies Dirt Paw, however lately I have been having some issues with bruising in the palm area...so I have been switching it up with a pair of Dakine gloves.

As for improvements...It's nice to see more companies making ladies riding gear. Unfortunately I think that they are missing the mark in a few areas. I like some of the stuff that Sombrio makes, however their shorts lack the heavy, tough wearing, rugged fabric that some of the Troy Lee and Fox short are made of. Sombrio isn't cheap either...at $110 + for shorts, I would be pretty choked up when I fell and tore them up on the second ride.

I also feel that some of the jerseys out there aren't made to fit over upper body armour. Yeah they look cute with nothing underneath, but what's the point if I can't get it over my armour?

Gloves...ok there's more out there now than a few years ago. But I would like to see some tougher gloves for the ladies. The dudes get the carbon fiber knuckles and burlier fabrics...we need that stuff too! Plus a bit more padding would be a nice touch as well.

Lastly, I like my leg armour to wrap all the way around my lower leg. Yeah, it's hot in the summer...but I have received my fair share of pedal in the calf action. This is why I seem to be stuck in the 661 leg pads. They are the only ones that fit be well and wrap all the way around.

I recently started mountain biking 2 years ago and had trouble finding the clothing that fit me well. Im 5'3 and 115lbs. Its hard to find anything including armour that works.

Shoes: 510 mens shoes until they released the womens ones, I LOVE THEM.
Shorts: Sombrio womens Drift shorts- they are thicker and they also withstand my abuse..best shorts i have worn yet and i buy a pair every year( im trying to build a collection, more gear the better) iver tried fox and I cant fit the TLD moto shorts( too big)
Jerseys: sombrio, they are big enough to go over armour, I buy the lofter jersey every year, great ventalation and also i bought the sombrio letters tshirt.
Jacket: Loeka-waterproof Jacket - Pinnin' It, the jacket overall is OK, they did something really stupid with the zipper, makes it hard to unzip. I wear it more for casual than riding because it would be frustrating to wear riding, the pockets are stupid too. One is bigger than the other because the way they positioned the main zipper( more to one side) I DONT RECOMMEND THIS JACKET FOR RIDING.. waterproof works great though.
Gloves: fox dirt paws- my favorite, they dont bunch up on the palm side causing more blisters than normal. I did wear the 661 mens glove CK1. Too big and i couldnt do up the strap on my helmet.
Armour: TLD LOpes signature knee pads- I love them but the straps are too long, I have tiny calves and I can basically wrap the strap around my leg 1 and a half times.
I tried the new womens race face and there smalls were wayyyyy tooo big.
DIY womens elbow pads from raceface- at least they fit thank god, else iwouldnt have any elbow pads, the juniors are too small and the mens smalls are too big.
Helmets: TLD I have 2 and buy smalls /xsmall and it fits great i love it.
Goggles: Oakley MX dirt crowbars fits the tld helmets perfectly.
