Man tough decision. I'd probably go demo myself. The status with 36 would make a fun FR bike though.
Get the Demo if you are racing, otherwise, the Status is the much better bike.
Its better in no way. Its a great bike, but the demo is the superior rig.
For racing..... If you wanna have the weekend blasts out with your friends, then go with the Status as the lighter frame and sweet geo would be perfect. But with the Demo, you pay more for a little slacker head angle and some more weight. Also, the change of the bearings would be pricey. There is no point. I even spoke to Specialized and they said to me. Word to word.
"I've spoke to all my peers and we all agree that the Status is a better choice and upgrade the components over time. The geo is better and more fun for us. We ride bikes for fun, Demo=Race."

just go 200. They dont bend so easy as to warrant that argument. Also, the modulation comes from the brake itself and rider input, not the rotor.
dude i had 200mm rotor on the rear i had 3 brand new and i bent them all always like "zing zing zing zing" F _ _ _ that putted 180mm rotor no problem and im riding it for almost a year and no bents and the 200mm ones in 3 months was already making noise
Maybe you were catching rocks with the 200 that the 180 couldn't quite reach. You must be hard on rotors. Kind of impressive really.
maybe... i ride alot of technical tracks and a hear alont of rocks hiting in the bike...

i had riden demo 7 and old demo 8 and i dont like the geometry its like im a freerider the rear is heavy the status its more like easier to manuver in curves and control in jumps and faster ... but if you want a thing to hang on with alot of punch buy a demo...
Well you have to remember there is 2.5 inches of compression room + 2.5 inches of open stroke length + 2 X eyelet lengths + room for internals. Adds up to 8.5 really fast.

Were you using a 180 mm brake mount on a 200 mm rotor? That will definitely always rub, make noise and warp.
