PRESS RELEASE: Southern Enduro Tour

For the third round of the Southern Enduro Tour, we are back in Texas. We've already started in the hill-country southwest of Austin for Round 1, went to the LovIt trail in Arkansas for Round 2, and brought it back for the third of six races that commenced in Texas last weekend. We are now officially half-way through our season, that's just crazy.

It's also crazy that it is still technically not spring yet... but in the hill country in Texas, it feels like summer! That only makes Camp Eagle so much better. Because it literally feels like you're at a bike summer camp for adults! It is definitely one of the coolest venues that I've ever been to for a race. When do you ever get to go somewhere that makes you feel like a kid at summer camp again?

The climb up to the stages leads you by one of the zip-line towers that are scattered around the camp, the door was open and it was too tempting not to climb up. After being on the bike all day the stairs were a little brutal, but the view wasn't disappointing.

All the 'out of state' racers were offered FREE lodging in the bunkhouses. It really added to the camp life experience!

Ethan testing out the road gap for distance.

After we were settled into our bunk-house, we put in a healthy day of practice Friday.

We rode all 10 stages, and a couple of the more technical stages that we thought could be the crux on race day a few times.

It ended being our biggest day on the bikes, 24 miles.

There wasn't one stage that I was not stoked about. The runs aren't super long, but they all belong. And that's important because I've been to some enduros that feel like some of the stages are just fillers. Each stage has some aspect, or multiple, that are fast, chundery, or have a technical feature that takes commitment and focus. If you skipped pre-riding a stage, you'd be screwed.

Saturday morning started with a good amount of s** talking' during breakfast in the cafeteria, because what else do you do at bike camp with all of your enduro homies?

We had an easy 9:30 am start.

And on the first day of racing, we battled the first five stages.

For a total of 10.5 miles for the day, 1500 feet up and down.

Stage 5 - SCREAMING EAGLE - It was one of the new additions to the stages this year. A short minute and 33 seconds was the official time for me. It was scary fast! My Garmin had my top speed at 31 MPH down this chunky jeep road.

During the summer, Camp Eagle is full blown kids summer camp. In the off-season, they open the camp to the public for different kinds of retreats and special events. I wish I could've gone to a place like this as a young grom, and I finally got my chance. There's cool stuff sprinkled all over the property - zip lines, skeet range, soccer fields and volleyball courts, hiking and biking trails, rope climbing courses. It is insane. We were pretty stoked that they were willing to entertain our inner child and let us wear ourselves out even more.

The barn was common meeting area and the where the Saturday night festivities went down.

The barn really set the tone for the party Saturday night. The Reefs from Hunt, TX played music late into the night and was great background music for the rest of festivities that were going on - high jump contest, long jump contest, keg toss, and the camp staff even set us up to play on the barn swing. And just like at every other race, there was plenty of Tupps Beer on tap!

Sport Ident timing system is dope. You receive your chip at the beginning of the first day, and when you're finished you turn in your times and prints at a ticket with your finishing place.

Thank you again to the awesome staff for providing us meals in the cafeteria and cooking us burgers after racing all weekend. It was delicious.

At every race, we give away a ton of cool stuff from our sponsors. The first prize to go out was a set of hubs of the winners choice from Industry Nine. You can tell Tyler Rhrinck was pretty stoked by the big grin on his face. And the first thing that came out of his mouth when he sat down beside me was, "Can you lace these up for me ASAP!? I've been wanting a set of sick wheels."
