SORCE Cycling Club is hosting their third annual Mountain Bike Race Series on Saturday, April 1st at the South Surrey Bike Park. The Junkyard Dog is the first Cycling BC sanctioned points race of the 2006 season and promises to be exciting for competitors and spectators alike. The second event, My First/Next Mountain Bike Race, is designed specifically for the first time racer. Race proceeds fund SORCE Youth Cycling Programs and volunteer trailwork at the Bike Park. The Junkyard Dog starts at 10 am with a frantic mass start. Cyclists peel out onto an incredibly fast road section before they enter the twisting, log-strewn trails of the lush, forested Bike Park. The SORCE trailwork volunteers have been grooming the course for months, and it provides plenty of opportunity for competitors to test their technical skills and racing prowess. The tight trail network also offers ample opportunity for spectators to check out the action.

The My First Mountain Bike Race starts at 2 pm and is open to riders of all ages and abilities. It runs on the user-friendly BLT trail, which is largely obstacle free. It is great trail to ride casually, and is a thrill when taken at speed. To encourage youth participation, racers 10-14 years old receive a killer Junkyard Dog race t-shirt with their entry fee. In addition, SORCE will be running a BBQ and a fundraising concession with souvenir logo wear.

Come on out and cheer on the competitors or test your mettle on the course. If you would like to register, head to your local bike shop or check out the SORCE website at www.sorcebikeclub.org. The South Surrey Bike Park is near the South Surrey Arena, 2199 148 Street, just 25 minutes south of the Oak Street bridge.
