Bruno Zanchi, Axo Sport Team, won the Downhill Race and Jack Bisi received the best prize of the Dirt Contest thanks to its endless “back flip”.

Mysticfreeride aqnd Spiagames, Organization Committee, brought Downhill and Dirt Circus in the heart of the more than 10000 spectators that Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October invaded Bergamo.“Mountain biking and all its circus needed a boost like Townhill”, Russel Carthy, Kona Marketing Manager, explained. And Townhill added an important brick to make these disciplines grow.

At the sunshine, Saturday morning, the Exhibition Area in the main commercial road of Bergamo, started to gain colours and shape. With a summer temperature the Dirt Jumpers started to train on the two big airs built by Kona with more than 120 mc of Dirt.

Grant Filder, Kona Clump International, broke any doubt linking an amazing Superman with a slow 360°, and gaining the attention of the public. Behind his run, the Best Italian Jumpers accepted the challenge, showing to everybody that they are able to jump higher and bigger too.

A good start to warm up. The real racing day was Sunday. Unfortunately, during the night weather changed and rain storms made the course and jumps very slippery. The weather didn’t convince the riders to use the brakes too much, on the steepest part of the track, the higher speed has been of 110 Km/h!!

The total prize money being handed out at the event was 7.000 Euro, and that gave the racers a strong reason to battle till the end to get on the podium. And the spectators got their payback for coming to the event, with a great downhill and dirt jumping show.

Shuttles started to lift the racers at 8.00 a.m. to the tower of San Vigilio Castle, where the starting area was set. The organization built obstacles and jumps along the course during the night with the precious collaboration of Cory Moore and his organization Head Over Wheels. Racers and spectators were astonished by the surprise. A lot of the obstacles were natural in the city, but wood and expertise made those even more challenging.

At 10.30 Downhill qualification started. The best riders showed their technique to the involved spectators all along the 5 kms of course.

Bruno Zanchi won the first edition of the downhill race, followed by Carlo Gambirasio and Lorenzo Suding, second and third respectively.
“It is and unforgettable race”, Carlo said after the race, “None of us thought Bergamo was so nice and the organization built a very fun course”.

While the “Speed lovers” fought along the narrow street of Bergamo Old Town, the “Air lovers” of the Dirt Contest worked very hard to be able to use the wet ramps and landing. Judges awarded Jack Bisi with first place because of his great “back flip”, but the organization and the public decided to prize all the guys for the big show that they gave to Bergamo.

Townhill was an unforgettable event.
