Victorian DH State Champs

The last time there was a race at Narbethong was over 10 years ago, this track is old school and it's mega rad. With oceanias being held at the same time as this event, there was a different spread, but that didn't stop well known pinners, Chris Kovarik, Rhys Atkinson and Timmy Eaton amongst the many showing up to have there go at taming this 5km long beast.


We had rain a few days before the event which made the track very, very slippery. Many riders having to fight just to stay on the bike and reaching speeds of 80km/h+ down the last open sections, is was a wild time. That didn't stop every rider coming down with the biggest smile on there face though, many too young to have ever ridden this track before and the oldies reminiscing on the good old times. Maybe a little too reminiscent at times?


It managed to dry up come racetime, as the racing started, many riders were struggling to stay unscathed on there journey down.


Once it got kicked up again, the juniors/U19s came down, a very open field this weekend with usual king pin, Dean Lucas absent, Trent Piribauer took it on himself to smash the rest of the field, qualifying with the second fastest time of the day in seeding, eyes were peeled. He came down smashing out the pedals to finish up winning the U19s and with a time that would of placed him 4th in Elite.


Everyone was know keen to see if anyone could even get anywere near the legend that is Chris Kovarik, he seeded with a time that made everyone's jaws drop. Was he going to go faster? Was there anyone who could catch him?

No. He came through the last finish sprint with every punter getting there cheer on, and managed to destroy every time put before him. Chris hasn't been to Narbethong since 1999 and he was enthused to welcome it back with open arms and a generous win.
