Video: World Enduro Series Trail Testing

Feb 8, 2013
by Matt Wragg

This week the Superenduro organisers, who are hosting the first round of the Enduro World Series, headed down to Punta Ala to take a look at the trails. The guys at www.i-mtb.com spent the day with them and produced this nice edit of what goes on behind the scenes before a race like this.

A quick pre-ride meeting.

The man on the left is Franco Monchiero, one of enduro's pioneers, to his right is Davide Bagnoli, one of the guides for the day and owner of the local bike shop.

To get enough runs in, the only sensible option was a shuttle.

it doesn't look like a bad place to end a ride, does it?

Enduro seems to be picking up steam this year, it's great for mountain biking

So are the trails shown in the video representative of the actual enduro track's technical level?

I always wonder... the BC Bike Race is considered a multi-stage XC race, but it is quite a bit more technical than some of the circuits that are being considered as Enduro tracks in European circles... same with a number of other local BC races that are called XC, but are sure as hell done on single track that would not be called any less than All Mountain by the rest of the world.

So where exactly does XC end, and Enduro begin? Does Canada, and BC specifically go by a whole different dictionary definition?

You have to remember that headcam footage never shows how full-on a trail is... Last year, after the Superenduro race there, Dan Atherton described them as being in parts "as tough as World Cup downhill". Proper enduro trails are much closer to downhill race tracks than XC by a long, long way.

I can't compare it to the Enduro trails, but I would say you are correct in thinking that BC "xc" trails are closer to all-mountain or Enduro in comparison with what the rest of the world calls xc.
