Subscribers to this newsletter will receive exclusive speaker profiles and other important conference news leading up to this year's event. This week, we profile the following individuals:Troy Rarick - Troy Rarick will be participating in the tourism success stories plenary on Wednesday, June 1st and conducting a workshop on mountain bike destination marketing on Friday June 3rd. Troy arrived in Fruita, Colorado in 1994 with a vision for its mountain biking potential. A partnership between Troy, the new city manager and a number of the remaining community business leaders led to the foundation of the Fruita Fat Tire Festival in 1996. Since then, the Fat Tire Festival has grown to a point where its revenues are estimated at over $1 million, with annual economic influx of over $4-5 million from MTB tourism. As a result, State and national attention has led to grants for downtown improvements, downtown landscaping, city bike paths, city parks as well as federal improvements at all MTB trail heads.

Jay Krantz aka Jay "Hoots" - Jay is a certified coach and professional mountain bike free rider who is active in the North Shore community, sitting on both the District of North Vancouver Outdoor Recreation Advisory Committee (ORAC) and the Natural Environment Advisory Committee (PNEAC). He is also an active member and supporter of the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA), and was last month named the winner of the inaugural North Shore Mountain Bike Community Stewardship Award at the 6th Annual North Shore Sport Awards. In addition to founding Hoots Gear, a dynamic company creating safety gear and technical clothing for mountain biking, Jay also runs his own non-profit organization, The DIRT Club, where he mentors youth. As such, Jay has incredible insight on what belongs in skills parks, including complete design aspects and a focus on progression and creativity.

Joey Klein - Joey Klein will be conducting the workshop on successful trail in dry climates on Wednesday, June 1st. Joey spent three years traveling the US as the leader of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew. In 2002, Joey moved into a new role: trail specialist - a position that enables him to share his exceptional trail building skills with trail groups and land managers worldwide. He spends his free time surfing and skiing.
