Angel Fire Resort Announces Official Partnerships for 2005 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup

New Mexico Mountain Resort Teams with Outdoor Life Network for National Broadcast Coverage of International Bike Competition

ANGEL FIRE, New Mexico (June 7, 2005) – Angel Fire Resort, the only U.S. location chosen to host the 2005 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, announced today they have partnered with the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) to develop and co-promote a one-hour television special on the international bike race that will be held July 9-10. The race is one of the most prestigious and extreme competitions on the world’s mountain biking calendar and is expected to draw over 300 world-class riders and 10,000 spectators to the resort town, 22 miles outside of Taos, New Mexico. Outdoor Life Network is an official partner of the Tour de France road cycling race and will now produce and air the 2005 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup television special in August.Competitors from over 30 countries will compete at the July race--expected to include: Brian Lopes (USA), Steve Peat (UK), Cedric Gracia (FRA) Michael Prokop (CZR), Greg Minnaar (NZ), Nathan Rennie (AUS), Sam Hill (AUS), Guido Tschugg (GER), Jill Kindner (USA), and Aneke Beerten (NDR).

“We are gearing up for one of the most prestigious mountain biking races in the world and one of the biggest events Angel Fire Resort has ever hosted,” explains Jon Mahanna, general manager, Angel Fire Resort. “We’re thrilled to partner with Outdoor Life Network to showcase the race nationally, and we’re excited to be working with top notch companies to make this the best event it can be.”

Official sponsors for the international biking event include Tissot, Santini, Schenker, Yeti Cycles, Iron Horse Mountain Bikes, Wells Fargo, USA Cycling the New Mexico Tourism Department, Village of Angel Fire and 94 Rock.

On July 9th and 10th the picturesque slopes of the region’s Sangre de Cristo mountain range will host three of the most grueling mountain biking events in extreme sports.

Downhill: extreme, high speed action will lead racers through tight technical drops in the trees, across a malpais (lava rock) field, and down a wide-open, high-speed ski slope before screaming into the ski base area.

Cross Country: Ultra-fit racers will compete along a single- track 8-mile loop that climbs over 1,500 vertical feet to the mountain’s summit.

4-Cross: head-to-head racing with four riders competing on a course with huge jumps and berms, on a state-of-the-art mountain cross course.

Angel Fire Resort just hosted the 2005 Chile Challenge race on June 4-5 and are pleased to announce that this year’s race was a UCI qualifying race. Downhill competitors were able to earn their qualifying point on the official race course for the only U.S. UCI World Cup racing location.
