Roundhouse Rumble

Perfect weather, awesome course and epic tricks could describe the
2002 Roundhouse Rumble. This years competition was held in downtown Toronto,
on June 9th, 2002. This comp was displaying street, north shore style,
trials and big air types of riding.

The Roundhouse had a laid back feeling, but was well organized. Riders
could work on a new trick, even after the time had expired, watching riders
stick a hard line after many attempts, ending with a perfect completion had
everyone going nuts! Free schwag was being handed out non stop from
companies like Roach, Furious, Airwalk, 24 Cycles, FUBAR and many more which
pleased everyone. The comp was MC'd by one of the organizers Ryan Senechal
who did an amazing job explaining what was happening.

Competing in pro were Chris Donahue, Aaron Chase, Mike Headford, Mike
Gooch, Darren Butler, Jeff Lenosky, Andrew McIntosh and Dave Forbes
. The
amateur lineup was pretty much all locals but was just as impressive as the
pro. Some locals that really shined were Dan Bax, Mike Jones, Mickey
Voneish, Ryan Rutherford and so many more!

Besides watching the riding, there was tons of other things to do. Such
as visit the few booths of the sponsors, check out the live bands, grab a
bite to eat or maybe go for a cruise in downtown Toronto.

Some really sick stuff was pulled on Sunday, such as Dan Bax launching
from the landing ramp to the 8.5ft high 1ft wide ladder bridge! Ryan
Rutherford barspinning off the 8.5 ladder drop, Mike Headford bunny hop to
manual across the molester van, plus his tail whip attempts! Backflips from
Patrick Goden and Aaron Chase. Goden did a backflip x-up over the box as his
last trick. Some huge nothings, superman's, 360's and whatever you could
imagine. Lip tricks from Donahue, Lenosky, Chase plus a few amateurs were
incredible. The whole feel of just a big group session was awesome, riders
were showing each other new lines and tricks which was super cool
considering it was a competition. There was allot of originality such as a
local Andrew McIntosh with a no footed can can foot plant, crazy transfers
plus much more. Donahue got more air out of the box jump than anyone thought
possible, plus he was throwing huge tricks in with it.

The comp ended with prizes being handed out, tear down then a huge party
at the Steam Whistle Brewery. Though I was just a spectator, I had so much fun, and anticipate next
years comp. There will be a DVD of the comp coming out very soon filmed by
William F White which should capture the comp beautifully.
