Backcountry Lifeline and The 139 Fund Announce 2017 Fundraiser

For the second year in a row, Backcountry Lifeline and The 139 Fund are teaming up to give away a sweet ride and more. For just a $10 donation, participants can win.

The 2017 139 Fund Giveaway event is aimed at supporting partner organization, Backcountry Lifeline’s, ongoing mountain bike safety and first aid efforts. Participants can donate for chances to win over $10,000 in prizes, including products from Maxxis, Smith, Osprey, Muc-Off, and Yeti.

"We're stoked about this event," said BCLL Co-founder, Flynn George. "Not only do we get to raise money for something we care deeply about, but we get to give away some incredible prizes, all thanks to our sponsors. It’s pretty incredible."

Prizing includes tire sets from Maxxis, a helmet and sunglasses from Smith, hydration packs from Osprey, and a fully built Yeti SB5 Turq Carbon XT with a "lifetime supply" of bike cleaning products from Muc-Off. [Specialized has donated a bike for the organizations’ Fall fundraising event.]

“We couldn’t do what we do without our sponsors,” said BCLL Co-founder, Bonnie McDonald. “Their support has been integral to our mission. Every time we talk to them, they say 'We love what you’re doing, it’s the right thing to do, how can we help?' This is just another way they’re leading by example, to help make mountain biking safer.”

Tickets for the Giveaway are available at Big Mountain Enduro race events, and online, at backcountrylifeline.com/fundraising. The cost for tickets is $10 each, with discounting available for higher quantity purchases.

The event will run through 3:00pm on August 20th. Winners will be selected and announced later that day following the Big Mountain Enduro series final in Crested Butte, CO. Participants do not need to be present to win. Every one ticket can win one prize, meaning that participants that buy more than one ticket can win more than one prize.

“Last year’s winner [of the bike] bought 50 tickets. He was pretty psyched to win a brand new Yeti for $450,” said BCLL’s newest team member, Courtney Lewallen. “It goes to reason that the more tickets you buy, the more chances you have.”

About Backcountry Lifeline and The 139 Fund

Founded in the Fall of 2015, Backcountry Lifeline (BCLL) aims to provide mountain bikers and event organizers with the training, tools, and technology necessary to be more prepared for the types of emergency situations they may encounter while racing and riding. The organization currently offers two types of courses; the single day, First Aid for Mountain Bikers course, geared towards front-country settings; and the four-day Wilderness First Aid for Mountain Bikers course for backcountry riders as well as instruction for event organizers pertaining to incident preparation and management. Partnered with Big Mountain Enduro, the Enduro World Series, and NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association), Backcountry Lifeline brings its training programs to bike communities throughout the U.S.

It's moulage. Aka a simulated wound. It helps when doing training to have the trainees see a more realistic looking issue so they're less prone to going into full freakout mode when they see something gnarlier than your typical closed collarbone fracture or road rash.

@mallowpufft: It sounds shitty, but when i come across injuries i think to myself 'this isn't my body, let's help this person as best i can.' It helps so much to keep me calm and sensible.
