Video: Downhill Buzet, Croatia 2015

It's quite hard to believe that it has already been eight years from the first DH race my club 'BK Buzet' organized in June 2008. I remember that we were so enthusiastic and decided to make the race no matter what. We found a potential track and did all the necessary work to make it rideable. With just about 90 riders, almost all from Croatia and Slovenia, we were thrilled that the race was successful. But this was just the beginning. From that first race, the numbers of riders kept growing. So with the time passing, we succeeded to have around 200 riders each year from all over the world. For all these years, we financed the race with a modest budget and with just a few local sponsors and tried to do our best in copying what we could see on the big name races of the WC. Of course, we are realistic and know that we don't have a WC track but we have something that is nowadays often forgotten.


Taking your bike on the shuttle, coming on the top and rocking on the 'down side of the hill' on a super fluid, fast, and not over technical track with a bunch of great people and then repeating it all again is what it's all about. And this is our race. No fancy cable cars, no fancy sponsors, no death evoking track, just enjoying the right dose of adrenaline with your lunatic friends.


This year our Category one race 'DH Buzet' takes place on 08-10th May in the town of Buzet, Croatia. Some of you may heard of Croatia and some hopefully heard of the region of Istria. It's just 5 minutes from Slovenian border and 30 minutes from the Italian border. Istria has a great geostrategic position and is often called - the new Toscana. Great food, great wine, great coast and sea, great people. Did I mention that we have the town brewery in Buzet?


DH Buzet is going on just a week before the IXS European cup race in legendary, Maribor which is about 200km away. Coming to our race is a great opportunity for a good warm up and loads of fun. It would be great to see Josh, Gee, Greg, Troy, Sam, Steve, Loic, Aaron, Manon, Rachel, Emmeline, Tracey, Nick Beer and all the other big guns riding the track, sitting on the back of the shuttle with the mortal riders, having a beer in the town...but seeing just every rider coming to Buzet doing the same things is priceless.
