not trying to be a dick but the first 1:30 of the video looks like something id rather ride on my XC bike than on my DH bike
  • 4 1
This is my opinion, whether you are a world cup downhill champion, or just a weekend warrior, we all share the same passion for biking. yeah i ride blue and im not the fastest or the best rider but i love it. all of you people in bc should be happy that you have your crankworks and what not but for us riders that live to ride in "onterrible" i am just happy to have somewhere to downhill, and its totally awsome to have this event here ! You guys argueing sound like idiots.

 well said.

Some people need to wake the fuck up, pull their heads out of their asses and realize that Blue Mountain is an awesome place and what Mr. Appleton is doing for the cycling community not only in Ontario but Canada as a whole would only boggle your mind. The fact that an event of this size and stature is happening in Ontario, let alone Blue Mountain speaks high volumes of where the cycling scene has come from in the past 5 years and is only a great sneak peak as to what is to come! Haters can each it an dye...

Isn't the supposed "brand new" and "secret" course just squeaker?
  • 4 1
yeah, its basically just a widened squeaker, rode it the other day....i think theres a new rock garden and a few new corners but its not brand new
  • 7 1
The way it was explained/promoted I thought this was gonna be like the US open at diablo where all the big guns show up to race on an elite level track. Im sorry but widening squeaker and hosting it on the same weekend as the champery world cup seems like a bad idea to me? I mean squeakers a fun trail and all but its really not very tech, the us open course had a f*ckin gnarly rock garden and was just all around a sick ass course. I kinda feel like Ive been mislead into thinking this is going to be something that its not.

This is our first year so we are focusing on getting the event off the ground, next year we will have a date that doesn`t conflict and i`ve already spoken to team managers for some of the big guys who would like to come!
The trail has been closed for 4 days so you have not seen the DH race course, it is having much work done to it.
It will certainly be an amazing race, prove me wrong and come on up and win it!

whats the protocol if it rains there at any point in the weekend? im planning on getting some gnar footy and dont wanna waste my time driving up there if its gonna be cancelled
  • 1 1
Race will not be cancelled due to rain

This event is going to be great!

To everyone who feels like complaining all the time, you guys living in Canada and the States don't realize the opportunity you have for mountain biking, every trail, every mtb event you are having in your country. Come and live in my country, where no one, no association not even our cycling federation does a f*ck to promote mtbiking, 60% of our mountain and forest is private land,30% government land who doesn't want mtbiking, what is left, we a group of 10 freeriders built mtb trails and try to organize mtb events, so that we can enjoy our favourite activity that is DH mountainbiking, and we still love it! so shut up and go ride your mtbikes. I'm heading to Blue Mountain! Smile
  • 1 1
 you've got the right idea!
  • 3 0
 Looks like Squeeker to me.
Good riding there though, for what Ontario has to offer.

I'm sure that sirbikealot is right because Crankworx is a festival with many differant races and sponsors are supporting the whole week when it comes to sponsorship. The East Coast Open is a single weekend event with a massive purse and prizing. The Open purse for the winner is three times the cheque Rob Fraser won for the canada cup last weekend!!! Great event looking forward to it. Come check it out

"This event is designed to host the best Downhill mountain bike racers that Canada and the world have to offer."

... i thought there was a world cup downhill race this weekend over in europe somewhere with Sam Hill, Gee Atherton, Greg Mineaar and Steve Peat racing ... maybe i'm mistaken
  • 4 1
Ya everybody shut the hell up.Petes doing an awesome job runing this and I'm sure the track is going to be the best Ontario has ever seen. Its gunna be fun!

I will never understand why the forum's always end up being a pissing match. Regardless of who has the largest hill in the world, whether the run is riden on a Hardtail, a unicycle or a DH I guessing it is going to be a great event. I wish I could come out and enjoy the party with the other lucky guys that get to ride their bikes there. Lot's of people on the planet without the coin or the physical capabilities to have the fun we get to have. Good luck to all who are in the race and enjoy the event.
  • 1 0
This might be a stupid question but i just wanna know are you alowed to take pictures of the people durring the race ? idk i have never been to a race liek this looks lie alot of fun
  • 1 0
ya dude, there will be a whole bunch of photographers there. the more pictures the better!
  • 1 0
thks man cant wait for this event should be sick
  • 1 0
on a completely different note ... that rear cam shot on the vid is awesome ...especially when the back tyre bobs in and out of shot ... something i'd like to see on more mtb dvd's for sure
  • 1 0
I think it looks like a lot of fun. I ride in Fernie, Golden, Vernon etc and wouldn't mind something a lot more wide open once and awhile. Good luck with your opening weekend and race!
  • 2 0
going to be a great event, super excited i can be apart of it and hope that everything goes as planed and everyone enjoyes what Ontario has to offer .
  • 3 3
hey Sirbikealot - your claim to "Canada's largest DH Prize Purse" is totally inaccurate! Crankworx has three DH events each with $6K cash and then thousands in prizes on top of that.
  • 6 1
what about the "DH" part of that. Think before you write.
  • 4 3
I am thinking before I write....Crankworx (the event - not to be confused with your handle) has over $80K cash and $50K prizes total...I am specifically talking the DH Part of it! I am sure it will be a great event for Ontario and stoked there is something happening out there - but they shouldn't make inaccurate claims. Good luck to the organizers and riders and have a great event!

Sorry man I should practice what I preach eh? Razz
  • 9 2
First off I want to say i love Crankworx, i competed there as an Elite athlete for 7yrs (back when it was Joyride too) and its an amazing event. Crankworx offers 1 DH race sanctioned by the CCA (UCI), the Canadian Open, it is a posted prize purse of $6k, which is great. Our single DH race which is sanctioned by the CCA (UCI) and OCA has a posted prize purse of over $10000. Therefore our claim is legitimate.
Our goal is to bring this to be Canada`s largest standalone DH race, with a much bigger purse for next year and a date that will not conflict with other world cups or major races. I`ve already spoken with world cup team managers and they are excited about 2011. This is our first year and it takes time to build, thanks for all the support!

all you winers and complainers are bitches come out and shred pussies
  • 2 1
bromont is not a bigger resort... by any means ... way to many light headed outfits sitting on there computers bitching over an event that they wont be taking part in.
  • 2 1
everyone who is whining and bitching about this i would like to see you race it and tell me that its sooo easy then! blue is dope and dont chirp it
  • 2 1
yeah this race is gona be huge for ontario DH , i'm definately going ! everyone should support this if they can and stop btching about minor details, this is a good thing

REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN FOR NEW RACERS ON SUNDAY MORNING, COME ON UP THE WEATHER IS PERFECT!
  • 1 0
My friends racing in that. Cant wait
  • 2 1
yeah, downhill racing at my back door, sweet
  • 1 1
is there going to be a hardtail class? could i race any of the classes on my HT tho?
  • 2 0
Dude this is an XC course with a small slope based on the vid... You have a better shot of winning on your hard tail IMO. Anyway, good to see Onterrible trying to promote the sport, but there just isnt the terrain out there to be rocking full on 38lb dh rigs. I grew up there I know.
  • 1 1
its actually quite steep, have you rode blue before?
  • 1 1
Yes there is actually some terrain here that you need DH bikes for.
  • 1 0
ok, thanks. so im assuming no HT class, which kinda sucks, but i'll live. i will have to go ride there to c how gnarly some of the terrain is.
  • 2 3
 @CJL1:
www.pinkbike.com/photo/4774305
based on yur riding photos basically everyone racing this event would tear yu apart on any course so shut the f*ck up and quit acting like yu know anything about ontario DH. just because our hills arent as big as BC's doesnt mean we cant ride them faster then yu. come race it on an xc bike and ill race on my dh bike and well see who gets down first buddy.
  • 2 1
Really, you cocky little puke... So how would you explain the fact that I have been on the podium for 1 out 3 BC cup races this year and finished top 10 in both the others eh?? You would crap in your pants if you showed up at Arduum... Did I mention it was the BC CUP? BTW, I have a 27 foot double in my albums... and I have a 30 foot training table in my backyard here in BC. All I see in your albums is a guy trying to do whack 3's on a 4 foot jump in his sisters jeans. I'm not tryin to say I'm the best rider out there, cuz I'm not, but loose the attitude cuz you just sound like a joke. Thanks for comin out.
  • 1 1
LOL, I just looked up that link in your post there bighitryda88... 1). thats not me, its freind of mine 2) thats a 20foot long step down that one guy has already broken his arm in 2 places on this year. 3) thanks again for coming out.
  • 2 0
 man, youre 32....seriously?
  • 2 1
 He looks real fast guys!.......http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5238475/
  • 1 0
Ya righ back at ya there champ:
www.pinkbike.com/photo/4065673

And yes I'm 32 and one day you will be too and you'll have a whole new generation of cocky little pukes running there little mouths and chirpin your skills too.
  • 1 0
dude, i would figure a 32 year old would be a little more mature and just deal with it, instead of firing back over the internet...
  • 1 0
Ya your probably right... but how does it make you feel when some meat head who doesn't have a clue tells you that you suck, you don't anything about MTB and that you should shut the f up??
  • 1 0
deal with it dude, some people thrive on pissing other people off
  • 1 0
hoow does it make you feel when some guy from BC comes on and shoots down your hole riding scene?
  • 1 0
what run is it this year?
  • 2 5
Thats not a DH course. I suppose the course is technically going down a hill, but that ain't DH.
  • 4 1
why are you complaining? if its not good enough for you then dont go
  • 2 3
I agree with PaullyDee, this would be classified and XC race in BC. And don't chirp me I grew up in Onterrible.
  • 5 5
 where is showcase?
don't bother, soo how is horseshoe?
  • 1 1
 horseshoe is weak bro
  • 1 1
At least we're having something in Ontario. Nice DH racing !!!
  • 3 3
"Canada's largest DH resort" hahaha try bromont!
  • 4 1
correction, Ontario's largest DH resort, way to read the article
  • 7 0
Ummm, rx1ton, although you didn't score high in reading comprehension, I think Whistler might be Canada's largest DH resort.
  • 1 1
