Epic Rides' Hail the Trail Fundraiser

May 5, 2017
by Epic Rides

Epic Rides is excited to host a new annual fundraiser dubbed ‘Hail the Trail‘—a campaign where the public can purchase as many raffle tickets as they want for a chance to win one of three top o' the line mountain bikes from Ibis, Salsa, and Norco.

Each $4 donation increases your chance of winning one of three incredible mountain bikes with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance (PMBA) in Prescott, Arizona, Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Association (COPMOBA) in Grand Junction, Colorado and Muscle Powered in Carson City, Nevada who all serve to maintain existing and build new trail in each of their communities.

Three winners will be chosen at random on June 24th and will receive either a Norco Optic C7.1, any Ibis Bike including the brand new Ripley LS, or a Salsa Deadwood 29+, fully equipped with components from SRAM, RockShox, Stan's NoTubes and Maxxis. The bikes with components have a retail value of more than $6,000 each; a very handsome reward for supporting three very important organizations.

bigquotesWhen Epic Rides approached Ibis about donating a bike to benefit their Hail the Trail effort, there was no hesitation on our part. Giving back to the people who build and maintain the trails we all ride should be a foundation of every business involved in our sport. It is with Ibis and will continue to be. We are happy to participate and know that Epic Rides will do it right, like they do with all of their events.Scot Nicol, Founder of Ibis Cycles

Trails don't build themselves, so 100% of your contributions will support the following initiatives:

Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance

A recently completed multi-year planning process by the Prescott National Forest, in which PMBA was a major participant, has resulted in the approval of a major expansion of trail resources in the Prescott region. 70 miles of trails in the PNF will be newly built, updated and/or adopted, and 8 trailheads will be expanded or newly constructed.

The first phase of this construction is set to begin in 2017 and will focus on 30 miles of mountain-bike optimized trails the Emmanuel Pines area of the forest. PMBA will be a lead partner in this build out, and our goal is to complete this portion of the project within 2 years using a combination of paid machine rough cut-in and volunteer hand-finish labor.

Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association

Funding is needed to complete surveys required for BLM review of the trail and for a professional construction of portions of the trail. Volunteers will also be used for construction. The final route for the Butterknife Connector is currently being laid out, subject to BLM approval. Biological surveys will start this spring. Completion of the direct connection from Gunny Loop to Butterknife is anticipated in early 2018, in time for the 2018 Grand Junction Off-Road, with full completion targeted for 2019.

Muscle Powered

Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city.

Muscle Powered was founded on the idea of building a sustainable infrastructure for walking and biking and will continue to support such efforts through a strong tradition of volunteerism. This will include enhancing infrastructure and mileage of trails in Carson City.

bigquotes“Hail the Trail is a terrific way to raise funds for trails while rewarding three supporters with three incredibly nice bikes. Our friends at the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship have proven this fundraising model with their 5 Bucks a Foot campaign, so we've put our own little twist on it with substantial support from event sponsors to help support three non-profit organizations that are critical to the success of the Off-Road Series.”Todd Sadow, Epic Rides President and Co-Founder

Prescott backs its mountain biking community and I'm proud to say I was born there. On the flip side, Flagstaff, which is where I now live, could learn a thing or two. I used to work for the FS and am embarrassed at how little support we get when it comes to trail building. Flagstaff Forest Service: take notes from our counterparts down the hill and support the mtb community, it brings much business to the area in the summer and fall months. We have the volunteers, you just need to give us the green light!
