Katy has been training hard all winter and in the run up to the first few races, she is fitting in all the riding she can. We went up to the all new 417 project to see what it was all about. Katy is ready for this weekend's action up at the first BDS in Scotland and will be following it up with the first round of the world cup the weekend after in Lourdes, France.

I live not too far away from the 417 and have been waiting to see what has been done.
That hill is amazing. Really steep in places.
Loads of scope for some flat out fast Dh runs.
Such a shame to see the trails look so flat!!

Where's the steep stuff???

that looked like a blue XC trail on the vid, not a DH track

@poah: yeah but all the videos you see of the 417 are on flat trails.
Even the so called dh runs. They look exactly the same.
Such a disappointment seeing as crickley hill is massive.

I am sure I am missing the point of what the 417 DH track is all about but I try to look at it like this. I am prepared to drive 1.5-2.5hrs to get to places like Rheola, Llangollen, etc because they are solid DH tracks. I'm not convinced riders living in those areas would be willing to travel that amount of distance to this project. I expect I'll be proven wrong though, and happy to be, since it will appeal to a lot of moneyed riders in the area. Don't get me wrong I applaud the work they've done and to get anything like this up and running in Cheltenham is an amazing feat...I just long for uplifted loamy, steep goodness - when there is exactly that just down the road on Lecky.

I think the idea about the 417 project is for it to be open to all riders at all levels.hence the pumptracks and jumps.the jumps in the barn look tiny to the huge jumps alongside the road, which you can see as you drive up the hill towards the air balloon roundabout.i heard the dh trails are aimed more at enduro style bikes rather than having rock smashing 200mm travel bikes.the project looks like it caters for everyone and most styles of riding so I wont complain about it.the place has only got started and I sure more work will be done and maybe with more rider feedback the place can grow more and more

Nice to see someone railing a berm properly as opposed to going deep and over rotating for that ever important roost shot.

anyone got any footage from the place? i've looked on youtube and just seen the red and blue tracks. flyup have some short 240p clips of the dh track but i want to see pov's of the dual slalom, outside dirt jumps, black dh track, and i thought there was supposed to be a 4x track?
overall i'm not too impressed especially as it's £10 to enter and it isn't even fully finished yet. Also if anyone has a video of someone doing that big jump on the bottom of the red run that would be sick.

Worst place i have ridden... flat, boring and really tight.

So what you are saying is you couldn't do the jumps or stay on the track?

 How's the 4X looking?
