by Jordan Holmes
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort opens for summer 2008 operations on Friday June 13th! Summer excitement is ready to get underway with the Grizzly Bear Refuge, Sightseeing in the Golden Eagle Express Gondola, Eagles Eye Restaurant and Mountain Bike Park.“This summer the resort is featuring some great upgrades to the Grizzly Bear Refuge with improved access from the Catamount Chair and a new raised viewing platform overlooking bathing pools within the refuge”, states Steve Paccagnan President and General Manager, “As well the Eagles Eye Restaurant will open for the summer season featuring a fresh summer food & drink menu and the mountain bike park is better than ever with a great selection of improvements built last fall.”

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is home to the world’s largest enclosed protected grizzly bear habitat. Visitors are given the unique opportunity to view a grizzly bear interacting as they do in the wild during an educational interpretive tour. With the completion of the new permanent summer habitat guests will have numerous opportunities to view Boo, the resorts’ resident grizzly bear. Tours are offered multiple times a day throughout the summer season. The Interpretive Centre is opens June 13th 2007 (seven days a week).

The Eagles Eye Restaurant is located at 2,350 meters (7,700ft) is the highest elevated restaurant in Canada. Treat yourself by making way to the top of the mountain for a "Sky Lunch" or for Alpine tea while enjoying panoramic mountain views, as far as the eye can see.

The Mountain Bike Park will open 13 trails on opening weekend with great conditions below the top of the Pioneer chair. The Bike Park maintenance crew has been hard at work, shaping and tuning the features in the Bike Park. The Alpine Hiking network along with more mountain bike trails are anticipated to open in early July, due to ample amounts of snow left from the phenomenal winter season.

Was there for the opening yesterday. Still snow on the top third of the mountain, snowed/rained on and off all day, but the overall conditions of everything that wasn't covered with snow was good. I don't think I have ever been as caked in mud in my life, but an awsome day all round. And a seasons pass is cheap!!
