PRESS RELEASE: ROLSbike - AIM Arnold Intelligente Messsysteme In times when data acquisition has already reached the ambitious broad customer base, we are pleased to be able to support the development and testing departments of the bicycle industry with our ROLS
bike measuring wheel system. With ROLS
bike it is possible to record complete load collectives during test drives. These load spectrums can provide valuable services during the development, testing and validation of a large number of bicycle components and thus make them lighter, more reliable and safer for the end customer. Similar kinds of measuring systems are very common in development and test departments of the automotive and motorbike industry.
Measurement data acquired with ROLSbike on a rear wheel of a biobike.General descriptionROLS
bike uses measuring elements with strain gauges to determine the forces introduced by the tire via the rim and spokes to the hub in the center of the wheel. For this purpose, the digitized signals from the strain gauges are calculated with calibration information by a signal processor in the hub. Additionally with help of the wheel rotation angle, provided by an internal angular encoder, a transformation into a fixed coordinate system takes place. The user thus receives the wheel forces and wheel moments in the axle-fixed coordinate system of the wheel.
Next to the forces and moments, the accelerations of the wheel in the x- and z-axis (vehicle longitudinal axis and vertical axis) as well as the rotational acceleration are also determined. The acceleration sensors are based on MEMS technology.
Finally all measurement signals are available to commercially available data loggers on a fixed connector with a CAN-FD interface. The power supply of the system also takes place on the same connector. The very high level of integration and reliability is essential for measurements in the harsh environmental conditions on e.g. trails. The modular and flexible design enables diverse use with different frame widths, rim diameters and freewheels.
Some key facts of ROLSbike:
• Three wheel forces
• Three wheel moments
• Three wheel accelerations
• Output rate up to 4kHz
• Adaptive digital FIR filtering
• High compatibility to frame width, axle and rim diameter, freehub,...
• Simple installation and handling
Areas of applicationThe possibility, available through ROLS
bike, to record a complete load spectrum during a real test run offers the development and test departments many new ways to optimize their products and prove their safety. A test bench for component validation or an FEM simulation can only be as good as the input data allows. Load collectives from real driving tests are an important cornerstone here.
