Review: Forge+Bond Shift EM - A US-Made Carbon Wheelset for $1250
@William42: I'd love to see a video of this. Seems super unlikely to be a quick method to me. The new hub and the old hub will be trying to occupy the same space at the same time. You can switch a rim in a similar way easily enough, but even then you need to go right round the wheel once taking all the tension off first. AND then the presence of the tyre is going to preclude the use of spoke drivers and power-tools (as demonstrated in the speed attempt video you posted) on the nipple head, which is going to slow things down considerably. AND, if you do find a mangled or seized nipple there is no way you can "throw a fresh one in there" without removing the tyre as mentioned before. AND we still need to remove and re-fit the cassette and the disc which is another factor adding time to the overall.

@William42: That's somewhat disingenuous as it is "just" a fresh wheel build with new components in 20 minutes; rather than "swapping hubs". Add on the time to remove the tyre and rim tape (with all the associated sealant clean-up, and if there's a beefy insert in the tyre then so much the worse); undo all the nipples and catch them before they fall into the rim; take all the spokes out making sure to keep them in the same order (assuming you don't need new ones (which most builders would recommend), clean everything up, and THEN you can start a record beating speed build... Realistically I think it would take anyone at least an hour and be "a right pain".

@GTscoob: If the carbon rim manufacturers want you to buy a rim that is only slightly lighter for 5-10 times the price then they need to make a strong argument as to why that is worthwhile. Their argument is that the Carbon rim is significantly stronger so will last 5-10 times as long (saving money on rebuilds and the hassle of damage). The "crash" replacement is surely about "normal" impact damage that would destroy this economic argument?

@bmied31: @hardtailpunter: You are missing out. It's kind of fun and empowering. Sit down with a cup of tea and all the parts on hand and it's not a big chore and really not that difficult, the key is keeping all the spokes the same length and it will come together. I taught myself the basics on a scrap wheel when I was 16, and I have probably built several hundred wheels since then (and a rim swap is much easier than a full build if the spoke lengths work). And hope to build many more, well worth the investment of time.

@j-t-g: He isn't, I just asked for the spec's (weight, width, depth sizes available etc) and prices.

Am I the only person who buys rims on their own anymore? All these complete wheels seem to suggest that's the case. I just sling new rims on as needed so that's what I want info about. Stand-alone rim details and prices please.

@woofer2609: The difference between a 2.4 and a 2.6 is enormous too. Especially if it's a Maxxis "2.4"" which is possibly closer to 2.25" and a genuine 2.6". It's a LOT more air between you and the ground.

Longer is faster and more stable. Shorter turns and pops "better" so is more "fun".

Fairdale Announces New Elevator Hardtail
The Elevator has a UDH, hard to combine that with sliding dropouts tidily. Eccentric BB would eat into the chainstay length and add a fair bit of weight.
