Preview: Vitus Gravity Enduro Series 2022, Ballinastoe

After three years hiatus the Vitus Gravity Enduro Series is back next week, 9-10 July, to one of the best locations in Ireland, Ballinastoe mountain bike trails. Riders of all ages are eager to race on the second stop of the 2022 Vitus Gravity Enduro Series. Entries are already open and will close next Thursday 7th July 10pm. This year the race is coming back with some interesting changes to the race format, with two formats available. In the Classic format riders practice Saturday and race Sunday. The "Mashup" format that was used on previous race in Djouce Woods and previous two years will stay, for any of those that want to still do it. PRO riders must do the "Classic" format, race Sunday.

The Course
Mash Up – Saturday

The course is approximately 15km long with 3 mainly downhill timed stages. You can ride the stages in any order, any number of times within the notified time limit, typically 4 to 5 hours. The liaison between stages is not timed so you can ride at your leisure and catch up with your pals. The stages are technical and steep. Please note this event is not suitable for beginners. Your fastest times on each of the 3 stages are added together to form your overall time.

Classic – Sunday

The course is approximately 25km long with 5 mainly downhill timed stages for a total of 788m descent. You must ride the stages in numerical order from 1 to 5 and a cut-off time still applies, typically 4 to 5 hours. The liaison between stages is not timed so you can ride at your leisure and catch up with your pals. The stages are technical and steep. Please note this event is not suitable for beginners. Your 5 stage times are added together to form your overall time. There are no second chances, 1 run and done!

Practice will be open from 8 to 10. Stages 1 to 3 will be closed from 10am to 3pm to allow riders from Mashup format to race. Practice opens again from 3pm to 5pm.

For this race all participants will have a sneaky preview of two completely new trails recently finished and a freshly cut natural section. A completely new red trail 3km long, Dark Loam + Holts, and a 2km long black trail, Junkers. There is also a new upper section to the known Expressway trail with a fresh connection to reach it.
