London, Ontario Trails'n'Jumps in Danger

So I guess this is where I ask that over used cliched question: do you want the good new first or the bad??? I'll decide for you and give you the bad first. Many of you from London, Ontario who are on this site undoubtedly know Meadowlily, the lustrous green gem tucked away in east London. You should also be aware of the glorious single track and dirt jumps that bless that area. But what some of you may not know is that it is in danger of being lost to commercial land development! The good news is that something can still be done:

I found this picture posted on the pinkbike forums and I have taken it upon my self to try to spread the word and try and get as much people involved as possible. The good people at pinkbike in there never ending crusade to better mountain biking around the world have allowed me to do just that.

Many people rely on Meadowlily for recreation and exercise. Be it walking, ripping down the single track, visiting the modest dh course or hitting up the wicked dirt jumps, there is something there for everyone. People of all ages take great joy from the bounty that Meadowlily has to offer, she has been kind to us and now it is time for us to try and save our gem.

So spread the word!

Tell you parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends even random strangers in the street(just don't take the candy they may offer you) to attend the meeting on the 26th of May at 4:30PM at City Hall, 300 Dufferin Ave.

If your excuse is lack of time, fear not for I have a solution! Simply click the link below, and email Roger Caranci who is a Ward 1 Councillor (Ward 1 covers Meadowlily) and tell him how much you don't need another shopping center.

If you would like to voice your concerns to the entire City Council assembly then follow this link:

So mark your calenders!

With enough public opposition we can fight back the corporate monster that intends to steal away our precious Meadowlily.

yes, save the trails! i'm not from canada nor live there, but i can certainly say that i'm sick and tired of all these shopping malls popping up everywhere, especially if they're destroying bike trails, dh courses, etc.

like the world needs another fckn shopping center, come on, its all about money, people dont care about jumps. i wish the best of luck for your trails, you should show up to that meeting with like 300 bikers and hikers and just embarrass them!

not to worry boys. 168 meadowlilly road is across from rona. the jumps are safe for now. but it signifies the beginning of the fight for that wood lot. it will be next. those trails you speak of. i cut several of them back in the 1990's. why? so at very least a few of you could enjoy those land areas while you could. i cut the trail from the warbler woods to the oxford bridge to kains. some of that trail got saved because the thames valley trail association was unified in its fight to save it. meadowlilly has a hope if you get their help. the hikers have to be in this too. and where is reynold's, first cycle and allseason's in all this? get them working together to save their business'. anyone got Dan Jones' support? He runs Fanshawe etc. and where is Mark from IMBA? this is why we be members. anyone talk city parks? Z group advertises Summerside as being beside a trail system. you got their suppport or are they building the mall? was this forest ever designated heritage? where are the environmental studies on the effects of wild life along a flood plain? show the damage city park did with the run off its has. you have had over 10 years lead time. now you are down to 3 days. get phoning people. lots of them. some of meadowlilly can be saved. but you gotta get organized now. go go go.

As a trail builder, I would like to say fuck their commercial shopping area. The world doesn't need more Starbucks and places for yuppies to waste money, it does however, need places for me to ride my bike instead of murdering and rioting. London needs to get their shit together. Just find the guy in charge of the mall build and kick his ass. If you tape a phone book to him, you can hit him with a bat and not leave bruises. I call that negotiation. SAVE THE TRAILS.

that would be the ideal situation!! unfortunatly I cannot personally make the meeting as I am doing my 8 month co-op for the Gov in Ottawa right now, so this is my way of doing my part, along with the angry but respectful letter I will be sending off

I'll be at the meeting and voicing my opinions loud and clear. They call London the Forest City, not for much longer if they keep tearing into all the parks and bush in the area. First Killally, then Cains, now this.... when does it stop!

 SAVE THE TRAILS
i h8 when trails get shut down
i may hav neva ridden them but other people hav and they enjoy doin this
Trails also give all people sumfin to do and keeps them out of trouble.
Tell ur council this and ask the big question. More Vandalism which will cost them money: for cleaning solutions and money for the pople to clean the graffiti. Then if they don't agree get ur army of supporters together and fight long and hard until u get ur way. STOP CLOSING THE TRAILS.

Just remember who stopped the Red Hill Creek Express way in Hamilton Ontario Canada temporarily and elect a candidate like him again. There is too much patronage to stop some of these old buzzards who still are stuck in the 1950s who say "you cant stop progress" from the self serving politicos.
