It's the old cliche, "there's no place like home" but when you grow up as a mountain biker in a small rural community surrounded by nothing but hills you begin to realise that there really is no place like home. Gisburn Forest is our local, and despite not having the bigger hills or the gnarliest downhills the community is thriving and the trails are only getting better! Get yourself along and enjoy the ride!
Gisburn is my local trail centre. You really do take them for granted when they're your local and you ride them alot. The trails are great and the secret natural stuff is great and it just keeps getting better.
Such a good place to ride. About 2 1/2 hour drive for us lot but we try and make the trip a few times a year. When ever we are all free the same weekend it's always the same question, Gisburn or Cannock?
Cannock is my local trail centre. An i've been meaning to make the trip up to Gisburn twice now an its fell through. I'm going to make sure i get to Gisburn this month.
@PbSkot: Cannock/Gisburn are both about the same distance to me. Sherwood pines is close by but the nearest decent trail center is Dalby. I bet any Americans reading this are laughing at me considering a 2 1/2 hr drive a 'trip'!
@petehaddock: Haha. I'm 30 mins south of Cannock. Be about 3 hours drive for me to Gisburn. But does look good fun. Watching this video has given me more of an urge to drive up.
25 minute drive for me, or 10 miles and it is a great centre.....unusually it has interesting singletrack climbs, not just Fireroad connectors. Does extremely well to cater for all users from family to more experienced trail riders. Yes it is limited by height or the lack of it and sure some riders will want bigger drops but it is a case of it will continue to develop and riders can get involved in the trail building as well,.
Well done to one and all involved, and I remember it before the one muddy trail........
I had an AMAZING day there two weeks ago... doing a couple of laps, caught up with the talented young lads sessioning the top of the Hope line, before the chap with all the drone kit was charging in to then sort out the film shot. Darn nice set of lads, respect. We talked Gopros for a bit... great result of a vid. Respect. If I may ask.... that was my first time at Gisburn. It did not disappoint, but from the vids I saw before I went - and the classic one above - I would really want to hit some of those jump lines / sets... I've not read all the thread above - my bad I know. I also seriously respect the builders/ locals concept, I live 3 hours away... is it reasonable to ask on here for some directions to these DH / FR / jump lines? or am I out of order? ( PM would be honoured) Thanks guys..
the dh lines arnt secret at all mate. from top of hope line head if you have climbed up the side of it to the picnic bench pass the bench as you would normally but instead of turning right in to quarry keep going couple hundred meters maybe and you will see a drop on your left the line crosses fire road. the lines are out in the open where all trees have been cut down on your right as you climb up past hope line
Im fairly sure the downhill lines are marked in orange on the map at the car park. As mentioned just follow the fire road round from the top of the Hope line. I believe the downhill lines also form part of the PMBA enduro stages? Although I may be wrong having never taken part.
what I'm sayin is as a visitor I dont want to take the piss... clearly if i found the trails off my own bat its a fair cop - and in any case would not divulge the location. They look feckin awesome btw... best fun in same place as a trail centre in the Uk. respect.
Absolutely awesome place to ride, everyone should try and get themselvs down. Making this edit with the lads was so much fun on trails we already know well. Never gets old !!
Great place, wish I could go more. I've ridden the trails and done a few Enduro's there, highly recommend it. I'm sure a bit of Strava reconnaissance would show the hidden trails. Nowt hidden any more where I live
40mins from my door and been riding here for well over 12years. It's only ever got better and great to see the newer generations now enjoying it from its 'hack n slash' trail beginnings that I first remember riding.
@m07mmukh: if you go from hope line past dh lines then drop in to woods on left near where the old road gap is. go down maybe 100m and first jump is on left next to the wall few more jumps then right hand berm to couple more doubles. they ones you mean. yea we rode them few yrs back when stevie was building the dh lines. think i remember forestry commission found them a bit ago not sure if they are still there or not. as for the dh lines a liked them more when stevie built them. the were scetchy as fook and got the adrenaline pumping every run. its a shame the guys building now have threre hands tied so much my forestry commission on size of things they can build
@filryan: Downvote only as it might not be the best idea to advertise where the secret stuff is? But what do I know - I've never been and maybe there's nothing there...
@slimboyjim: not really secret anymore mate. is it kev that runs the gisburn page he put something about it on main page ages ago kicking off about people building it when it has been there years. got impression from that post that it got ripped down
@filryan: The only downside to Gisburn is they don't keep secret stuff open. They built some really good lines for the Enduro event and shut them all off afterwards for Health and Safety. Theres plenty of other Forestry Commission trail centres with a maze of secret routes that are left open for people to explore.
@J-McBride: yea that is a bad thing but to keep places open they need to jump though the hoops laid down by who ever owns/runs the land. its the blame culture to blame i think there all scared of being sued by someone that hurts them self. and its these people that spoil it for everyone. the majority of us know the risks and know if we spaz it then its our own fault for getting it wrong
