You couldn't be further from the truth. I sat down with a kid and his mom for a beer after riding. He cut his tire, went to the shop at the bottom of the park and spent $110 on a tire, service, and a few ounces of stans. His cut was smaller than mine here. I went to the shop to get the tire to repair it and the wrench there had already given it away.

 That's a lost skill. Kids these days just think "Daddy and mommy will buy me a new tube!"
