Had a chance to get a SHORT quickie to Fresh Pond, so I took my Stumpy and we're breaking in my friend Mike's NEW Rockhopper!! These new Rockhoppers are very nice for the price. Super comfortable and responsive ride.
I REALLY had fun trying out his new Rockhopper 29er. Glad he took my advice after enjoying all my Specialized bikes. When in doubt... get a hardtail! The Rocky's frame is well made, the forks are comfortable. The whole thing feels real solid. We re-bedded the pads and the brakes are real tight now too, and the RED paintjob looks awesome. I'll be installing his RED brake rotor bolts as soon as they arrive! ~JSV
Hey those old Rocky's basically got the whole mountain bike thing happening! At the time, they were awesome bikes when we saw those. Still ride it too?
I sure do....! I was actually not riding it much at all outside towing the kids around the local walking path when they were younger. It sat mostly but I converted it to a 1x10 drop-bar gravel bike last winter so I could bust out on a lunch ride really quick... it's in my profile pics.
@adm750: Hey yeah, I'll bet that older Rocky makes a great gravel bike! I'm so hooked on the modernizing of the new MTB tech that I sometimes forget to appreciate what really was good about some of those older bikes--when they were getting right anyway, like some of those early Kona FS frames that impressed me so much. I have a friend that still rides his late 90's Cannondale super V and he's converting to disc brake. lol My first dedicated "mountain bike" was a full rigid Trek and that was a lot of fun.
