i might be getting one of these but want to know what people think. is it light because i need to be able to throw it about for a bit of street.and is it good for dh because it has 7.5 inch travel

They weigh 41 lbs IIRC, which is just over 18 kilos.
My VP-Free weighs 18kg and I find it fine, but I've not ridden it in anger yet, so I can't really comment.
The forks aren't great though on the Big Hit 1.

Then they're alright bikes.

That's a good way to do it too. Upgrade all the parts then when it's just the frame holding you back, upgrade that to something better (or more focussed to your riding style).
