they probably have a design flaw, I have got a fox Ti spring broken in exactly the same spot.

It`s either the accidental heat treatment this spot gets while grinding the end of the spring coil or the U-formed internal spacers, that only allow 3/4 of the contact face to absorb pressure from the the coil`s head.
