i feel like GT uses a type of URT still ( Refined if so) and Maverick use URT as well.
It hasn't been totally ditched. I'm not defending it, But it can't be that bad in certain situations.

fact of the matter is, the URT was good back in the day, and the only reason they dictched the design is because new ones came out that were better. I personally like the way the Ibis rides with the URT.

Ibis' equivlent to the Schwinn Sweet spot bikes(all URTs, all rode like crap!)

Not even. Have you ever ridden an ibis before?
Those things are the best bikes to be made.
And I can tell you that the "Schwinn Sweet" did not last 25 years!

It don't matter which one lasts longer... they're the same design(same pivot location... Ibis Licensed it from Schwinn)... and either way, a URT(Unified Rear Trianle) is the worst type of rear suspension ever(Hence why it's only still used on huffies and pacifics!) BTW, that Ibis was made in the '90s, nowhere near 25 years ago! lol

Dude. I challenge you to go ride a Ibis like that one. That thing is so friggin nice you have no idea. That thing is a mechanical masterpeice. Until you actually ride a ibis, you will never know how a ibis rides.

The brand doesn't make up for the poor suspension quallity of a URT. That's the fact URTs SUCK no matter what brand they are! Hence why no real brands use them anymore(includeing IBIS)! Even Ibis realised that that design was a fail, and they've moved on from it(to the dw-link)! If it so great, then why didn't they stay with that design?!!! Riddle me that one! Rolleyes

the design didnt fail. it got used, and ibis is one of the best bike companies ever to surface. And URTs do not suck. Not on the Ibis I rode because it kicked some ass on the trail. The reason Ibis didnt stick with the URT is because they went bankrupt and when they started back up, the did carbon bikes, and didnt want to use the URT cause it wouldnt work with the mojo design.

A carbon frame can use a URT, that has nothing to do with them ditching it. They ditched it, because the ride/suspension quallity of a URT sucks, and that is why allong with Ibis, Schwinn, trek, fisher, rockey mnt., and numerous others all ditched the URT. I havn't ridden the Ibis, but I have ridden all the others listed(including the Schwinn which is the same set-up), and all the URTs sucked!

If you had any common sense, you see the pattern, and that there's a reason why so many manufacturers have all ditched this epic failure(the URT)! Rolleyes
