My guess, comparing to my 08 Nomad: 14kgs with these tyres?

One hint though, judging on my recent bad experience with the drive train. New Nomad has slightly less chain growth than the old one, but still it is pretty big. Then you run a short cage rear mech on 1x10 setup so I guess you have a problem with proper chain length, at lowest gear, the cage is very retracted, then on highest it is very extended. Be careful with that. If you go for some AM/XC ride avoid bigger hits on last 2 high gears as you will snap the chain, as it won't be able to accomodate the growth. It deosn't even take a big hit, it is enough to ride down from a 1ft high step. I snapped the chain twice already, having only 4 rides on 1x10 setup with 32t front 36t back. Your chain tension on pic looks a proper chain snapper on techincal XC trails

Sweet ride anyways Wink

Thanks for the comment/ warning ! I usually have a bit more chain on it with a mid cage saint mech, i've swapped it over because the longer one needs a bit of TLC (a fair amount of sideways play ). I'll be sure to keep that in mind though until i get the other one back on there !

The RP23 is working well, i don't have any problems with it bottoming out. My non boost valve RP23 used to bottom out though on my old kona stinky. I'm thinking about getting a coil on the back for going to france and a uplift days, it's a lot of money to swap out though. Ideally i'd like a coil all the time but as you said earlier yours was useless trail riding, and i don't want to sacrifice that ! I've heard the cane creek double barrel doesn't work with VPP well, which is a shame cause because i would like one

Almost my dream trail bike spec here.
You got an idea what the weight of this is?
  • 1 0
14kgs sounds about right, got a 2011 van 36 rc2 kashima on it now so add another 200g ha. Big fan of the smooth coil though so not too bothered about the added weight (and they look awesome)

Very nice, I'm running some 2011 Fox myself (without the kashima unfortunately) and I'm loving them. If you're ever needing new tyres check out the Schwalbe Nobby Nic, a pair of them in 2.25 would make this beast even better Smile

Couldn't agree more, nobby nics are amazing for Trail/am riding. Especially in wet conditions they make your bike climb on anything and they clean out fast even from sticky a day after rain deep mud. The area where highrollers and minions fail big time. I have NN evo up front and NN evo Double Defense on back as i have lots of sharp rocks onlocal trails. Both as tubelrss. On dry they roll very well and acceleration is uncomparably better than Maxxis gods of cornering grip. Haven't tried them in bikepark duty though, and heard that they actualy lack grip and stability when things get properly fast. Still for mixed conditions and trail/am use they are like shyte on velcro. Expensive but worth every penny

 WAKI knows what's up.

Yeah i have thought about Nobby Nics but they are expensive, maybe if i'm feeling generous next time i change them !

Maxxis prices went up lately, almost all is above 30 quid, and Schwalbies actualy went down a bit. I bought both of mine under 40. Only thing is that always get either Double Defence or Snake Skin for rear tyre, as regular EVO carcass is easy to slash. Though I recommend DD all the way. Don't get UST versio -> they are heavy, don't have cut protection, DD and Snake Skin are UST ready, and work as well as a "proper" UST tyre. I've put like 50ml of sealant to rear, and 100 to front as it is not UST ready. Anyways as you have UST rims all NN including cheaper protection version will seal well. It takes only a few rides to seal them completely.

How is Reverb seatpost going so far? I am thinking about one, but the fear of getting some play makes me wait. CB says every year that they reduced play in their joplins, yet it still happens and develops pretty fast.

Sounds good on the tyre front then , might invest in some for the summer !

The Reverb is great couldn't do without it now, there is play though but you don't notice it when riding ( i know lots of people say that ) but you really don't. Nothing like the slop on on crank bros. It also pops up no problems.

Maybe hold out for Fox to make something special without play in ?!

as long as you don't feel anything it's fine. I don't think that FOX would solve the "issue". I'd rather expect them to release something that costs double than already expensive Reverb, with Kashima, Ti clamp and other stuff of questionable necessity. I might opt either for Reverb or for wait for 2012 KS. Maybe cannondale will do something, they manage to keep their lefty forks "playless".

How's Float RP23 shock? Although they said that since they fitted boost valve in, rear end doesn't dive excessively - well mine DOES. I was suspicious as people complained about that unsuccessful marriage of VPP + air schock, with DHX Air already having Boost valve. Yet I believed them and bought Rp23 as my previous DHX 5.0 coil was terrible in trail/am riding. While I love the float on trails, (it's an unbelievable climber IMO) it bottoms out on any jumps and drop offs. SC also claimed that they fixed the problem with Vpp2. Any comment on that from your side?

Cheers!

WAKI, I am running an RP23 on my commencal meta 6 and also found that the shock just blew through the middle of the stroke and bottomed out too easy. I sent it off to TF and had some magical trickery done on it and Push tuned.... got it back and it was perfect. All the diving problems sorted and it wasn't blowing through the travel anymore. If you can get your shock Pushed I would recommend it to sort the problem out.

Hello. Is it 160 or 180 in the front?
  • 2 0
 it's a 2009 160mm float RC2 in the picture, got a 2011 160mm Van RC2 on it now

Thanks man. Nomad Carbon is my dream bike but I am thinking to get something bigger like 170 RockShock or 180 Fox Float. Yours however looks fantastick so maybe I should look no further and get 160. Looks nice balanced.

patryka - if you look for a miniDH/FR bike, then Nomad + 170/180 fork is a good choice. But that's it. Already for AM riding, such setup will be pretty useless. It will higher up the cockpit and slacken the head &seat angles so much that climbing will be a ineffective torture. You won't be able to lean over the bars enough with straight back while seated - and if you can't do that, then you can't climb efficiently. With 160 fork bike is much more alive and still stabil enough. I use Lyrik Uturn, the way the damping works is a shit, but adjustable travel makes Nomad kick ass everywhere from technical XC trails (such don't exist in Poland but anyway) to proper Dh tracks.
