i've heard climbing rope gives a smoother ride for the cable cam?

I heard that too, but a quick test on a sketch trolley says otherwise, soo smooth and fast.

i really want to make one where you can use it as a huge dolly and control the speed. That would be immense

it would be awesome but so tricky to control, before I was worried about managing to get enough speed (with rope).. now using cable I'm worrying about it going to fast. I should be testing it in Wharny monday if you want to come and have a look?

I've got exams to revise for unfortunately.. I might have a play around with designs over the summer as to how to control it, I imagine theres some designs on the internet..

just had a gander- the only easy was of doing it is by radio control- and I have radio control gear....meaning you could have tilt/pan operated by radio control. Now that would be awesome.

You could maybe try a long rope attached to the end of the knex thing, then pull on it abit to slow it down but as the camera goes down the wire let the rope feed out your hand, so you can just tighten your grip abit to try makeit smoother when you slow it. Would take a while to perfect

the K-nex trolley was only a mock up, not going to use that.

oh, well you could try the same technique but on the actual trolley, just watched the video seemed ok, might need to be slower on a more techy track?

i suppose you could have 2 people on it, maybe like 1 at each end, one lett it go one pulling it in to control speed? dunno.

I think I'll just have to get the rider to try and match the speed of the cablecam, there's no simple way of controlling the speed which is smooth.

How much weight do you think that could hold?

How much did the wire cost you?
