It doesnt, it just takes a picture every second, 2 seconds, 5 seconds, or what ever you set it to in the GoPro settings.

I love my GoPro, never really used the time-lapse setting yet, might do it next week at Whistler. Sick pictures!
Have you downloaded the new firmware for the GoPro, well, its not that new, but, theres more settings and it makes it a better camera cause there was some bugs from the factory.
