 they good to fly?

Totally. Very responsive and faster than shit. We had 4 people in the cabin and basically full fuel tanks and we could still get a cruise climb of almost 500fpm through ~7000ft. But the cruise descent is where you make your real time...you just keep the mani pressure at 21" and trim it all the way to the yellow on the airspeed. Which is like 190mph. The PIC for the flight is my neighbor, he works with the guy who owns it and he lets him use it totally free so my neighbor just needs to pay gas and his own insurance.

aha nice I helped rebuild this old 150 so I can fly it for free whenever Razz defiantly not as fast as a mooney though .. cruses at like 85 kts... but for a piston single engine mooneys are really nice .. kinda want to take one up

Yeah for sure it's a blast. Like I said, you're up to 120kt in cruise climb without even thinking about it.

Meanwhile my plane's cruising speed is about 70mph...

Haha epic bro. Tailwheels look hard to handle...my instructor wants to take me up in his Citabria to do spins so I guess I'll find out then.

Mine's fairly manageable. It's got a stall speed of 46mph so I can go in really slow. If there's a huge headwind I can just land it on the button too.

Yeah but what about dem crosswinds?
  • 1 0
Funnily enough, my last flight was a steady 30mph headwind with a gusting 30mph crosswind. Out of nowhere the plane rolls 45 degrees because it weighs close to nothing. It's fun! But landing in a crosswind is a challenge.

Here's a picture. That's me standing with it. Had to land it early because the wind was becoming too much. My cruising speed was about 55mph in that headwind.

Sounds fun man. I'll be flying a Cessna 172 tomorrow...trying to hook up with some winds in the afternoon to play around with those. Hoping they'll get up to 20kt!

172s are nice and stable planes. Wind shouldn't be an issue with one.
