Its one of those bikes that if you find it on ebay or any other bidding site you just have to snap it up there and then because they dont come round often!! i am always watching ebay to source an old giant atx 1 downhill bike, always wanted one of those! i would probably just buy it and replace parts, get it looking amazing and hang it on the wall and never ride it, just for the fact that it is a legendary bike!
Thanks i was looking at the Fox 36 160 VAN forks for this. they would be big enough to keep it looking mean! The parts list i have for it are all expensive parts, i dont want to spare any expense on this thing as well as you know yourself it will be a beast when complete!
I think the 6" travel should suffice, nicolai seem to suggest anything over say 5" has potential to stress the top tube due to the angle and suggest using a headset with a minimum bottom cup length of 22mm to counteract this. I found the frame on eBay but didn't have money to buy it, turns out the wife bought me it for my birthday haha, and she got it for £275 , I couldn't believe how cheap it was. The guy wanted 500 but didn't have a reserve, and no word of a lie, apart from the nicolai sticker flaked on the side of the frame and like one stone chip on the underside this frame is as good as new. Total bargain and great find.
£270?!?!?! Awesome! what a deal!!! I thought that nicolai say up to 8"? Anyway its up to you mate. I've looked for one for ages just can't find one. What a beast your bike is going to be!
You can put 8" on it but nicolai say that this poses more risk to stressing the frame, I mean I put the bombers on it and don't get me wrong they look awesome but I really like the look of the 36's 160's good long travel singles. Ideally this will be mainly a freeride bike but I wanted to keep a street/bike park aspect about it to make it adaptable to a few styles. The proof will be in the pudding when it is completed haha. I am expecting to have it fully built up for around October/ November time.
