I'm no top end photographer Joe but have you tried lowering the shutter speed to about 1/50s with flash, and a slightly higher ISO?
It might help you get the same exposure throughout the image obviously it will vary dependant on light conditions and so on but might be worth playing around with.
Hope I don't sound cocky
