The Dorado is a great fork. I've never run a Fox 40 or a Marzocchi 888, but I have some time on various RockShox forks, from the Domain DC RC to the Boxxer WC. First, I have to say the seal life on the Dorado is incredible compared to the RockShox. My old Domain needed fresh seals about every 2-3 bike park days. The Dorado has had the same seals in it since I bought it (used), and there isn't the slightest hint of weeping or leaking. I probably did 15+ hard days at the bike park on it. Second, you can't judge the damping feel by bouncing it or tooling around a parking lot. Just pushing down on it, it feels strangely notchy, but that's just the 2nd stage of the compression damping. On the trail it is pure butter. If you soften the high speed compression down all the way you could swear your front tire is running about 8psi. When you hit the sweet spot in the damping it's just a perfect balance of small-bump sensitivity and stability.

You do have to know what you're doing, but once it's dialed it feels like pure magic. The low speed compression and rebound adjustments also make a huge difference. I had buddies telling me the upside down chassis would be flexy. Yes, if you hold the wheel between your knees and torque the handlebars back and forth, there is a surprising amount of flex. But that is a force you never put on it when riding. On the trail, I've never felt a fork that laterally stiff. And hitting the brakes over rough terrain shows off the best attribute of the upside down design, the longitudinal stiffness is off the charts compared to a traditional fork. Because it just holds a line in that situation, it's easier on your hands and forearms, and the damping stays more consistent. Compared to the RockShox forks, it just feels better-engineered. Honestly, this thing took my riding to another level last season. And just look at it- it's damn sexy. People in the lift lines constantly told me they dug my setup. The one downside I can think of is that it's a little bit tall in the axle-crown measurement, so if you're running higher-rise bars it'll feel like a chopper. On balance, though, it's absolutely brilliant!
