Calling it a prototype is ridiculous. They simply contact the Asian maker about their portfolio of standard DH rigs and get a frame with NS-Bikes graphics in return. Wait, i got it, the graphics are in the prototype stage.

You think so based on what

I've seen a few catalogue frame designs around but this one's a new one. The commencal "rip-offs" i've seen haven't had the axle on the seatstay member.

@czlenson: Based on the fact that it's an Astro frame straight out of their catalog??? just a guess, but I'm pretty sure that's where I saw it first... And it does in fact have the same axle.

One of the usual giveaways is that it's a Horst-Link bike and the Asian "catalog" companies are notorious for using this system as they're not bound by US patent laws like most companies selling in N.America (look at how many sick horst linked bikes there are in Europe). I wonder if NS is planning on using it or if they're gonna change the rear end for production to avoid the royalties they'd have to pay to the Big S.

 Horst-Link patent expires in 2014

Except its a totally different suspension design

It is a different suspension design, but totally different is a bit of a stretch...

It's fuckin' stupid to compare frames these days! Different tubes, different profile, different suspension - horst with floating damper, for sure different geometry....

same concept.. and the seatpost clamp of a norco Razz
strange with all the copyright BS nowdays.. that it does not apply to bike design..

Lol, people say it's a commy rip off, but commy ripped off macmahone...

Yeah there's more then enough different to not call it "a Commencal rip-off"... A) it's a Horst linked bike, B) I can't tell for sure if the shock is mounted to the frame not the rear swing-arm, but they'd be a big difference, and C) Commencal hardly "invented" that type of shock location/layout/frame design. The integrated seat-post bolt is something Mtn. bikes stole from BMX race frames of over a decade ago and is a GREAT idea that's seemingly slow to catch on.

@: the-mountainbart-experience : I see you;re from Inverness??? I was BORN in Inverness!!! I've got a bunch of family in W. Daviot too... I've never seen anyone on here from that little corner of the world... Very cool... FYI Macmohne didn't invent this layout either, but yeah, everyone's copied SOME part or another.

Im just saying its too similar.. and yes the shock system is almost identical to commencal.. since the shock is mounted to the chainstay.. i thought at first it was a repaint.. sorry to offend folks.. but imho its too much look alike..
