I run my tires till there completely trashed or till I cut a side wall and still end up spending way more on overpriced bike tires than I spend on my vehicles.Mtb is an expensive hobby if you ride a lot.

none of those answers are correct.
My tires get replaced when they show signs of traction loss.
Then again it wont stop raining around the 'sinus valley' for more than a day or so, then it is back to the constant precipitation and overbearing humidity.
I may need to scrap this seasons choices next year in loo of some circular rubbers with a bit more (read, a lot more) wet weather traction.

I picked up on a comment by Mr Aston once, regarding trimming knobs that have lost their edge. To sharpen them up and get the grip back. You obviously end up with shorter knobs. I’ve done it with a shorty recently. Anyone else have any experience of doing this?

Still running my original tires on my 2016 transition patrol. Tha back is starting to show signs of wear but the front is still pretty fresh. I usually ride once or twice a week.. the secret is staying as much away from asphalt as possible!

Ask me how many tires I have bought in the past 3 years? Only one, bought a couple bikes that came with new tires. Last bike I bought the guy gave me 4 tires, all in great shape.
