Review: 2024 Norco Optic - High Pivot, Short Travel
@arrowheadrush: I picked up a Stumpy EVO on mega sale last year and liked it so much I got a standard Stumpy frame just before Christmas. It feels like an absolute rocket ship compared to the EVO and other 30-35 lbs trail bikes I've been riding for the last several years. I recently bought a set of lightweight wheels and XC tires (Maxxis Aspen) for it and along with another couple tweaks, I dropped nearly 3 lbs off compared to the trail wheel and tire (Forekaster) set up. It's not World Cup light by any means, but for the endurance racing I want to do it's quite competitive.

Epic EVO or snag a non-EVO Stumpjumper before they update it.

The Tallboy is peppy, I will give you that but it's certainly not light. Even the tippy-top builds are still pushing 29-30 lbs, which seems heavy (to me) for a 120mm travel bike. Not everyone cares about weight but many do, especially on shorter travel bikes.

Review: 7mesh's Cache Anorak & Grit Pants
The Patagonia Dirt Roamer Dario mentioned has been my favorite riding jacket for the Southeast US. It breathes really well at the expense of waterproofness, but that's a tradeoff I'm willing to take around here. I use it mainly as an outer layer during cold but dry winter rides. If it rains in the summer here it's usually a deluge and hot as balls so a jacket just makes the whole experience that much more uncomfortable.

Story Time: When Bikes Aren't the Answer
Sorry for your loss Henry, this piece resonated with me for the same reason it resonated with @pmhobson. Our friend was an amazing rider of any bike, effortlessly cool, and more importantly, a profoundly decent, kind, and genuine human. His loss was, and still is, devastating to those that knew him.
With everything that happened around his death, I didn't ride for a couple weeks. After the funeral, I went to Bend to visit family and try to clear my head. I rented a bike and rode slowly, eventually taking a break by the river. Looking out over the rapids it sunk in that I would never again have the chance to ride with my friend and it absolutely crushed me. Thinking of that moment brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes years later.
I still think of him on a daily basis and his life reminds me not to take any of this for granted. Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us. Tell the people you love that you love them and never pass up the chance for a hug.

@pockets-the-coyote: one of mine got frayed at the end after a few years of use so I took the opportunity to test its security with some diagonal cutters from Klein. Took two snips and about 10 seconds.

I have a couple of those locks and they are really only good for deterring grab and go type thefts. As long as you're using them in the right context they're a pretty neat little product. I would never use it to lock up a bike that is going to be out of sight or in a sketchy part of town though.
