World map of mountain biking participation

YOU NEVER RIDE ALONE


The fact is that the number of mountain bikers is increasing at a fast rate, yet we do not have much data on the number of participants. That is why we are on a mission to create the world map of mountain biking participation.

Quality and existing statistics on mountain biking participation differ from country to country, however the main challenge seems to be the variation in definitions of mountain biking that vary from those starting with just owning a mountain bike to those dealing with frequently riding on the off-road terrain. Apart from that, official statistics in most countries do not measure the participation in mountain biking as a separated activity but as a part of cycling, which makes it difficult to estimate the share of mountain bikers among them.

As we believe that more recent and precise data on the number of mountain bikers exist, however it is usually only accessible in mother languages of each country, we encourage you to help us develop a more detailed and publicly accessible map by sending us relative data with appropriate references that include at least source, author and year.
