Cannondale Factory in Netherlands To Close In 2027 With Expected Loss Of 120 Jobs
The amount of people in the comments that didn't really read the article is insane...bim not related to PON in anyway but they are made out to be some kind of evil Corp when that really has no merit... 1. Cannondale is not going under or disappearing. The factory that is producing Cannondale bikes is being closed. The production is moved to Germany to one of PONs other factories more fitted for assembling more than just Cannondale bikes. It would have been ideal to move the production to the gazelle factory in Dieren as that would mean the factory would atleast stay in the country but gazelle is probably at full production capacity currently. 2. 18 months notice is way more than a company is legally required to do like someone else said in the comments. Give them a little credit where it's due, this is definetly not just "we are required to do this so we are doing the bare minimum". 3. Business is business. Having done my final internship at Gazelle in the period it was bought by PON gave me little insight. Gazelle back then was on the brink of going under. I saw the last road race bikes being build and the lines converted to other bikes. They had at that time recently stopped building kids bikes as well. Everything has to do with PONs portfolio. Gazelle as a brand is well known as a top brand for regular everyday bicycles, touring bicycles, and e bike varients of the them. Of course the race bikes are missed but that wasn't gazelles money maker and PON already owned cervelo in Canada so why compete with each other. They have/had like 2 brands in Germany that build mostly kid bikes, they had Union at that time for their budget bike brand and some others that fit other niches. As much as we want every brand to keep making everything they did it doesn't make sense business wise to keep investing in products that don't sell or can't compete. Focusing on the strengths of each brand actually made them better. Yes the production will be moved, no you won't be losing your favorite Cannondale models... Unless they don't sell in which case any model that doesn't sell by any company will be dropped at one point... 4. "production is done in *insert country in Asia*". This is just untrue and very ignorant. Manufacturing of many of the hydroformed-alu and carbon frame pieces are made in Taiwan yes but the rest is done in factories all over.
