@akeheren: ok then point out to me an individual race where the top qualifier and points leader did a false start flake out to try to psyche the guy in second place into having a crash. At the last race of the season. And then didn’t go to the podium. I’ll wait while you waste your time researching. It has never happened in any sport , period. If it happened we would remember it because it’s outrageously unsportsmanlike, awkward, and frankly embarrassing for the sport of mountain biking. This is the type of notorious spectacle that mainstream sports programs will pick up and publicize because it’s so unheard of and interesting.

FYI he lost. Would have been smarter to not ride recklessly all weekend on such a sketchy track.

@phastlikedatnascar: I think Loic realized that this was realistically his last chance at an overall title and that played into his decision to do the fake start flake out. He was so disappointed after Jackson’s run he didn’t even feel like riding his bike.

Barely acknowledges Jackson’s amazing accomplishments this year, and then near the end Loic outrageously says he feels like he didn’t deserve what happened this year!? Who is he blaming his practice crash on? Loic comes across in that interview as a self centered narcissist. Dude was going recklessly fast all weekend on the roughest track and it finally caught up with him. Jackson eased his way into the racing and had a more sustainable strategy.

@G-horseNoBrakes: Yes I am a parent of 3 young children and I just made a battle rap about my parenting style this morning. It’s here..

Loic being injured in time for the birth of his children would be completely inconsequential. Plus it wasn’t that bad of an injury and extremely unlikely he would make it worse. What was more likely was that Jackson would get injured in his run because he knew Loic was coming down after and Loic had been considerably faster all weekend. Jackson went completely out of his comfortable safety zone for no reason, and Loic intentionally caused that dangerous situation. Distrustful, unsportsmanlike, and embarrassing. Loic made the sport look bad, as if downhill racers are just conniving cheaters who only care about their own results.

@llamaz: His leg wasn’t rapidly swelling, it was good enough for him to be warming up. It almost seems like Loic was exaggerating the injury for the camera at times. There’s times where he appears to be walking fine and other time’s where he is moving slower and acting stiff. It’s not a convincing injury and even he said the crash wasn’t bad. I don’t think he wanted to go down the track and not be the winner, so he just flaked out of the whole situation.

This will now be the most memorable part of his legacy, regardless of what he’s done previously or does in the future. It’s unprecedented and has never happened in any other sport.

@Mtn-Goat-13: No way in hell Jackson would flake out like Bruni did in front of his own Canaidian fans. No way, and I doubt that anybody will ever have the audacity to ever try something like that again after we saw what an awkward finish it created. Imagine if he tried the same stunt again in the future, everybody would be pissed. If it’s not ok to do it twice it’s not ok to do it once. It sets a terrible precedent for the sport and Loic must be called out as unsportsmanlike for his poor decision making.

That’s the most absurd excuse, a hematoma would not prevent you in any way from making it home to see your kid. There is absolutely zero logic in that excuse, please think rationally and use a little critical thinking before you go along with such obvious BS. The fact that Loic made that excuse just shows he was desperate and had no real excuse. He was seen pedaling his bike afterwards, he could have gone down. He should have gone down to make the overall podium. It was a farcical display of disrespecting the fans, the sport, and his fellow racers.
I appreciate that Ben acknowledged there were some questionable moral and ethical implications involved in Loic’s unsportsmanlike decision.
