Interview: Nick Lester on DH World Cups, Data Acquisition, & Mass Damper Testing
In my testing, the aluminium tubes gave a feel I preferred over the carbon ones. These were also a better fit with the rest of the chassis when I ran the data through the compliance profile tool I've written.
It's very hard to say which one will work best for you and your system without proper analysis, but the aluminium ones definetely offer a noticable difference to the bike. Not strictly better or worse...sorry for being vague ;)

I have actually done this. I have a rear wheel where at the third intersection, the spoke goes under not over, which leaves a 2mm gap. I've run this wheel for around 4 years and it has required more attention with regard to tension and truing than a normally laced wheel. It seems to offer very similar compliance characteristics to the wheel which uses a traditional lacing pattern but with silver spokes, but the traditionally laced wheel would appear to be more robust and therefore more consistent.
