Wanted: 26er, 27.5 | Frame: ~16-17" | $1000

$700 USD
Hello Pinkbike - looking to put my 13 yo Son on a decent older MTB that isn't trashed. At the price range I am looking, 26er / Hardtail is likely, but a 27.5 FS would be awesome. Santa (Cruz) was a little too good to me this year. Now the extreme disparity between my 2020 Santa Cruz Bronson and what he's riding, is Borderline Child Abuse to be perfectly frank. I like to ride trails with him, but this is not a good look. It seems my options are either throwing money at ultimately pointless upgrades for the 2012 GT Avalanche (BCA), a better fork (SunTour XCM on it, it sucks) better drivetrain, tires, full tune-up... all the everything, which doesn't seem rational. I have in mind either a good 26er FS - or an decent 27.5 (HT or FS). Local pickup preferred, should not pay more than $600-750. Will definitely get in trouble for this, but what else can I do? Msg me here if you have something suitable. I will keep an eye on local CL as well. Thanks!

Ask Us Anything With Kona Bicycles - Fit, Geometry, Kinematics
@konaworld: Your position here, (now many years later), speaks volumes about Kona's visionary, and inclusive approach to frame Geometry. I had been shopping for a Santa Cruz, and found that basically to get a 'good fit' for my 6'4" from the waist up, and Shetland Pony from the waist down body... I could pay top dollar for the latest 2019+ from SC XL, and XXL's with low Standover and longer reach / ETT, or... I could buy anything from the Process line going several years back, and get the nice blue color I wanted. About to hammer down on a 2018 CR. Trying to decide between 134 and 153, but in a geometry race between Kona, Yeti, and Santa Cruz, the fact that you did it early, pretty damn well, and affordably... that earns my money. Thanks for realizing good geometry and efficient engineering could solve all the variables!

@dangerousdave: That explains a lot. I watched it from another site in the rabbit hole, and was very confused at how a body even could be attached to what I was seeing, because it looks like, flow + tech + "Brutality". I wanted to see what was happening to the body (and bike) that was on those rollers. Because either the bike was working OT, or the human was, or both. Then I came here and watched them all, so that I could ????.
