Words: Esker Cycles

Esker Cycles is excited to announce a collaboration with MRP, with a limited run of Japhy frames to match MRP’s Cerakote “ShredKote” forks.

ShredKote is a ceramic coating that MRP provides as an option on their forks and shock coils. It is thinner than yet more durable than paint. The result is a coating that is slightly lighter, more impact resistant and won’t flake off. We decided to make a limited run of Japhy frames in “Wild Purple” to match their Raven fork.

This is the first batch of frames shipping from Esker with the updated Portage Dropout with UDH.

These limited edition frames are available in sizes Small- XXL and only as complete bikes with two different build options:

What’s in a name?

Japhy Ryder is character from the book "Dharma Bums" by Jack Kerouac. Kerouac created his characters based on real people from his real life experience, and Japhy Ryder is Gary Snyder, the Beat Generation poet. All Esker hardtails are named after characters that are strong defenders of wild spaces, and Gary Snyder has led generations of nature writers to pen countless volumes on the defense of our natural world.

The Esker Japhy drew much inspiration from Gary’s poem "For the Children"

The rising hills, the slopes,
of statistics
lie before us.
the steep climb
of everything, going up,
up, as we all
go down.
In the next century
or the one beyond that,
they say,
are valleys, pastures,
we can meet there in peace
if we make it.
To climb these coming crests
one word to you, to
you and your children:
stay together
learn the flowers
go light
